Project: pre-heresy army

Recommended Posts

Hi there brothers, one of my dreams is collecting a pre-Heresy army, but unfortunatly I cannot order from FW ( problem with my credit card, they said " we don't support your card "), so the only way for me to get some FW stuff is at the Italian Games Day in october.

Anyway this  isn't a problem.

The most difficult task for me is choosing the legion :)

I love Luna Wolves and Emperor's Children..

I like Death Guard and World Eaters too..

Now I am saving 20€ per month in order to buy some stuff from FW on the 14th of October and I have some question for you..

What codex should I use to represent one of the legion mentioned above?

What unit should I take, and waht unit should I avoid to take in order to represent one of the legion mentioned above?

And the most difficult one....

What are the colours of those legion mentioned above? :D

I try to answer, but I need your help brothers..

First question: Codex SM for Death Guard, and Emperor's Children, Codex BA for World Eaters, Codex SW for Luna Wolves.

What do you suggest?

Third question:

Luna Wolves... Are they WHITE ( skull white) or Light Grey ( fortress grey ) ??

( My scheme should have been.. White primer, Badab Black wash, Skull White.

Or white primer, codex grey wash, skull white. )

Emperor's Children.. Same question, are they purple or pink?

(My colour scheme should have been Dheneb Stone (over white primer) and then 3 coats of leviathan purple wash, but I noticed that it is too dark, with gold details, ie trims or other details )

World Eaters and Death Guard, white armor ( the way I have mentioned above for LW) with blue ( regal blue ) pauldrons for WE and with green ( snot green ? ) pauldrons for DG..

The Answer to the second question is up to you...

What do you suggest?..

Thank to who will help me.. ^_^

Hey matey - welcome to the pre-heresy madness!

In answer to the colours questions - Luna Wolves are white with black trim, World Eaters are white and blue (how dark the blue is is up to you), Emperor's Children are purple and gold (they change to lighter colours later) and Death Guard are off white (how off white is debatable!) and the green trim varies (Collected Visions shows a drab grass green, some people have gone for darker green - both look good - I particularly like the cover of Galaxy in Flames for DG).

Have a look around B&C for more information and also check out The Great Crusade forum for lots of PH/HH inspiration - they have some great resources for each Legion.

I agree with your choices for codexes, but really you can theme a Legion to any codex - an EC Assault Company (C:BA), ultra resilient DG (C:BA infantry with sanguinary priests on foot), veteran-heavy (C:SW Loganwing), etc...

As to which Legion you should pick... I'm afraid you'll need to decide for yourself! I've seen stunning examples of all of these Legions and all have cool fluff, so pick whichever one inspires you the most, to keep you motivated! You could always create a mixed crusade army with two (or more) Legions fighting alongside each other - either one from the fluff or a crusade fleet of your own devising.

Sooo....

Luna Wolves

Space wolves codex/Space marine codex

Loken, a wolf lord with runic armor frost blade ( loken wears a chainsword in the books ) and saga of majesty

Or

A Space marine captain with relic blade and artificer armor

Vipus Jubal and another sargeant Bale, are Wolf Guards attached to 3 squads of 9 Grey Hunters

Or

3 Tactical Squads

Obviously a contemptor dreadnought in both cases ( :) )

A predator, and MAYBE terminators, Justaerin squad

A Wolf Guard Battle Leader ( Falkus Kibre ) attached to 4 Wolf Guards

Or

5 terminators ( claws and maces-> hammers and shields )

Comments?

Pre heresy is essentially the Great Crusade so what part of the Crusade is your focus? Most of the Crusade the marines wore mkII and mkIII armour. MkIV gets introduced about the same time the Heresy is set in motion so only appears at the end of the crusade. MkVI armour doesn't exist and neither does mkVII which is what most of the GW plastic kits are.

It would be interesting to see an army only made up of mkII and mkIII marines with maybe some terminator suits. Will you also get the FW deimos pattern mkI rhino and predator and the proteus landraider variants?

My luna wolves will wear only MKIV, sorry brother..i love that armor :D

Maybe one or two marines will wear the MKIII ( Jubal for example ;) a big guy in MK3 with a huge power fist )

Yeah I am planning to buy them, but i will use " normal rules " for them..

IE, my land raider proteus is considered a normal land raider ;) ( i want assault with my termies after disembarking )

( I am sorry guys, but I cannot provide pictures untill october..now I am only gathering information; fw miniatures are very expensive for me, so I have to plan this army very very diligently )

What do you think of the draft list brothers?

Try looking here for some insperation. http://www.tempusfugitives.co.uk/pdf/40k/A...20Expansion.pdf its an awesome pre/during/post heresy 40k expansion by tempus fugitives. Some really nice units and upgrades plus a large collection or heresy era artwork aswell

Don't forget that the Black Templar upgrade sprue has a mkIV helmet and torso and so does the Blood Angels Death Company boxed set so you may be able to get some of these through bitz sellers. There's also these two fellows:

One on the left is the standard bearer from the Ultramarines Honour Guard set. Metal one on the right is Chaplain Cassius sans head. Playing around with a couple of regular torsos to make some mkIVs.
