DXF's LPC '12 WIP Thread

Recommended Posts

I, Deus Ex Ferrum of the Chaos Ascendant, vow on the honour of my Legion to paint and present at least one headquarters unit, ten Chaos Space Marines, and one Rhino on or before the 31st of March, 2012. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

And so, in a fever of activity after making the vow, I threw together my squad of ten marines, aka Tauros Squad. Next step: priming!

Edit: Figured it made sense to include the vow so looky-loos know what to expect.

So, got some forward progress going on. I got the squad primed and basecoated with Regal Blue:

But the big news is the Rhino. I went on a tear and built it, primed it, and got started on the painting in all of about two days' time:

Yeah, so, not a lot of progress to report. Tournament last weekend and my birthday this weekend are chewing up a lot of my time. That being said, I did get all of the green highlighting done on Tauros Squad. These markings are three-layer, with large stripes of Dark Angels Green highlighted with Snot Green and select areas hit with a thin stripe of Scorpion Green. I need a new detail brush, so some of the lines are thicker than they should be. . .

But here's a group shot:

And a close-up of the sergeant:

And since the flash on my phone is an all-or-nothing thing, here's a no-flash shot of him. The flash just brightens the whole thing up way too much and throws off the colors:

Edit: Looking at the pics, they look a little odd -- too bright a green on too dark a blue -- but once the metallics go on the trim, it evens out and looks better. Promise.

Looking good! I absolutely know he feeling about the phone flash, it's that harsh, white light that kills the shading. I like how you glued the arms in place for the meltagun but did not glue the gun itself. I shall have to borrow this idea, as I never thought of it myself.

In any case, you did the Alpha Legion scheme very well.

No updates on the good-looking Alpha Legionnaires? :woot:

On the contrary. Been a little busy lately, but I did get the Rhino finished -- as in, complete 100%, down to the headlights and even a little free-hand). Which is a first for me.

Yeah, I tend to go too heavy on highlighting on infantry models which come out looking a little poop, so whenever I do vehicles I have a tendency to overcompensate in the reserve direction and go too easy on 'em.

Still and all, the flat blue isn't horrible. A little extra touch-up may be in order.
