Lamenters

Hi guys !

As I'm finishing my 1500pts of DIY chapter (the Spears of Ilios), I have tons of BA bits left over.

So I will use them (and some new boxes too) for my new project, a Lamenter army (full jetpack), as it is a chapter I always loved.

So here are the first members of this new army :

- Brother-sergent Arges, 7th squad, 5th company :

- an now unnamed member of the Death Company (as I think they loose their name when the join those walking dead) :

- brother Pelias, champion of the 5th Co (for the honour guard of a future librarian) :

And the "group shot" (if I can say ! ^^) :

Hope you'll enjoy, and as always, C&C welcome...

thanks for comments, brothers !

@Togusa-san :

Do share your method of doing black?

Base in chaos black, then highlighted by adding adeptus battlegrey to the mix to pure battlegrey

Last highlight is just a little lining of codex grey on the edges.

I have 2 more Death Co on the desk, so I will do a tutorial with pics.

@Olisredan :

I like the yellow you have painted, sort of a burnt umber, I think. What's the recipe?

The recipe is simple, but take a little time :

1 - white undercoat

2 - base in iyanden darksun

3 - coat of gryphonne sepia on all the yellow => once dry, you can use diluted snakebyte leather in the recess and lower parts to achieve the burnt umber color => last is a mix of snakebyte and black, very diluted, to clean the lines between armour plates and "rubber" parts in articulations of the armour.

4 - pure iyanden darksun on upper parts of the armour plates, then next highlight with a mix of iyanden and ivory (Prince August)

5- last step is a lining in pure ivory

As for the black, I'll do a tuto in a near future.

Surprised that no-one's mentioned the freehand but god-damn that is one sexy skull on the Death Company brother's leg. I've always loved your Spears of Ilios, but these are looking to be a special kind of awesome.

I have seen most of your projects, I have liked every single one and this project is no exception B) I really like the way you've painted the yellow and black and I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the army completed! :)

Keep up the terrific work!

Ludovic

For the faces, I paint them as normal (in this case, PA elf flesh as a base, with a mix of GW dark flesh + scorched brown for the shadows and highlighted with PA ivory).

Then I use a very thin coat of diluted mechrite red around the cheeks and nose, then a thin and diluted coat of adeptus battlegrey (but shadow grey works well too) on all the "furry areas" (shaved head, mustache and beard).

It's better to use very thin coats to control the coverage, and use several coats until you have the right color.

And be careful when painting large areas suche as shaved heads to avoid haloes...

Edit : just found an old tuto posted on a french forum of the way I do faces (black undercoat, this time) :

http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/180/tutovisage.jpg

- base : mix of scorched brown + dark flesh + elf flesh PA

- 1 highlight : base mix + elf flesh PA

- 2rd highlight : pure elf flesh

- 3rd highlight : elf flesh + ivory PA (but GW bleached bone ca do the job)

- the I paint the eyes (black line => white line => little dot of black in each eye to fix the eyes).

- mechrite red in very thin coat on the nose and cheeks (but not too strong, or your mini will look like an alcoholic)

- and for the last, a very thin coat of adeptus battlegrey or shadow grey for beard/mustache/shaved head.

Hope it helps !

As requested by some people, here is a little tutorial for the yellow :

1) iyanden darksun :

2) gryphonne sepia on all the yellow parts :

http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/8163/dsc08599b.jpg

3) rework of the lower parts and finitions of the sepia wash with diluted snakebyte leather :

4) paint all the lines between the armour plates, the grids and the rubber parts of the armour with a diluted mix of black and snakebyte :

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3054/dsc08601.jpg

5) pure iyanden darksun on the higher parts (at the middle of armour plates) :

6) highlight with iyanden darksun and PA ivory :

7) pure ivory on the edges :

Little zoom on the chapter symbol :
