Need help/advice to partially strip a model

Recommended Posts

I was going to post this on tutorials requests, but i read the 'read this first' so hopefully i posted at the right subforum.

Brother marines bear with me a for a minute.

I have recently painted a marine veteran model in DA colours. All was right and well until i started painting his head. This is not the first head i painted mind you but for the love of me i dont know how i did this.If i was aiming to paint a plague marine i would have been proud, poor chap looks like a deformed heap!

Anyways to tell a long story short,my inquiry:Does anyone know of a trick to strip the marines head bare of paint while keeping the armor?

I am rather fond of the success on the rest of him.

Thanks for your time brothers.

Ive done this on a shoulder pad Ive wreaked.

Use masking tape to mask the model very very well

Then take a Q-tip (cotton bud) and dip it in nail varnish remover or other stripping agent and then hold it against the head so it softens the paint.

Then give it a good run and pick at any paint using cocktail sticks or something else what isnt going to scratch the metal.

Once its done remove all the masking and its done.

I had a friend ask me to repaint just the head of his finished model.

Hands down, I'd say to use Dawn Power Dissolver. It can be found in Walmart if you're in the USA.

The stuff is more like a gel than a liquid.

Here's the post talking about the stuff.
