Vanguards

Well, I quit my dayjob and will be starting college, so no more 6 day-a-week-every-weekend BS, so I actually have some time and energy for my geek-side.

And to kick it off I had this bunch of sweet resin goodness that was just begging to be made even sweeter!

Now I am a big fan of finecast, since it allows me to convert models easily, what before took a 30 minute session to just remove whatever limb I wanted to replace, now takes about 30 seconds.

Now the downside, is that thing things, such as power swords, will 9/10 times be messed up. This becomes VERY clear with the Vanguards. Out of the 2,5 boxes ( got replacements for a few ) pretty much every powersword was either very bent, bubbly or so brittle that it snaps if you look at it wrong.

So lucky for me, that I wasn't planing on using them anyways!

Here we go:

The brady bunch as it is, built for cool-factor, not game-play factor.

Relic blades

Dual-wielders

Haliberds

One-hand hammers

And my personal favorites! The two-handed hammers. The bigger-than-life macho man on the left will probably be used as a captain or some such at times.

I also picked up a box of BT Sword bretheren, since I thought "hey, awesome bitz!". Then I got home and realized that they're all one-piece (more or less) resin models....... Did not notice that they were finecast.... so no bitz for me....

BUT if all else fails, CONVERT! Figured that I could use some extra vanguards anyways...

Excellent stuff.

There's something about Vanguard...they whisper "We aren't the best tactical choice for the cost," while screaming "Thou shalt give me an awesome pose!" :D

Looking forward to seeing some paint on those bad boys!

Cheers guys!

GS'ed the jump packs on to make sure everything fits. Had to move some arms a bit as the weapons were leaning on the hsoulders, and the jump packs reach in quite a bit.

The JP will be removed when it comes time to paint, as well as some of the arms (mainly the two-hand gripp ones).

Come over here and say hello to my little friend

We are the emperors chosen, we are the angels of death

Kierdale: I love vanguards. The only time they see action is during apocalypse games, where points doesn't matter anyways. But since they are the end-it-all combat guys, I figured it's kinda fitting. And I'm pretty sure it's this guy that's screaming it,

"Thou shalt give me an awesome pose!"

Yes it is a man-o-war hammer that I looted of a friend that stopped playing warmachine. It IS too big for a normal marine, but a vanguard with elevated possition, a big bulky jump-pack and a huge shoulderpad on the other side, it fits well.

Those of you who remember my stuff know´that I work a lot with GS, and no conversion is truly done untill it has some green goodness on it!

I run all my vanguards with tabbards/loincloths to make them stand out(and cause my first vanguards were the old metal vets, that all have them).

So some quick GSing later

This will be done on the rest as well.

As you can see there will be a decent bunch of Vanguards in the end (all marines on the pic). The squad on the top left all have cloaks as well, and will be my foot-slugging squad, the rest will be given jumppacks as I get more.

So, tabbards are done! Quick easy GS work and they're truly vanguards.

Backpacks and obscuring weapons have been removed for painting.

The one I'm most pleased with, came out a classic pose that I love!
