The Claws of Corax (Attempt 2)

Claws of Corax

Recommended Posts

The Claws of Corax are a second founding chapter of the Raven Guard. During the Great Crusade were a second wave Drop Pod force, dropping into critical locations already marked by the scouty and stealthy Raven Guard units. Prior to the Drop Site Massacre the Claws (numbering 3000 under the command of Commander Camulos) were mid prosecuting a war seperate to the rest of the legion.

When Corax recalled his legion to amass for Istvaan V the Claws never received the astropathic message much too late (The powers in the warp delaying it). When the message was finally received they returned to Deliverance during Corax' attempt to rebuild the legion. On returning to the Ravenspire (after the Dropsite massacre), Commander Camulos marches to Corax's audience chamber but is intercepted by a Ravenguard captain who insists that he is not welcome and to leave (The raven guard captain is actually a Alpha Legionnaire trying to prevent the Claws reuniting with the Legion.) The Legionaire blames Camulos for the deaths at Istvaan and says that it's how Corax feels and that Camulos is no longer welcome in the Fortress.. Camulos asks if they are the words of the Primarch, to which The Legionaire goes onto say "I have my orders. If you wish to speak to our Primarch, you should have followed yours."

The commander leaves in dispair and leads the Claws into the scouring never to return.. All ties to the Raven Guard cut.

The fleet leaves Deliverance and takes the war to the traitors in an effort to prove their loyalty and courage. During the course of their new crusade, they make planet fall on a contested planet and find a raging battle between the Ultramarines and the Wordbearers. The effort of Camulos’ Brothers tips the battle in the favour of the Loyalists, and the Ultramarines greet Camulos and his Brothers. As a by product, Camulos' fleet is utilised by Roboute Guilliman in the Scouring, and adopts Guilliman's Codex Astartes.

During the scouring the ultramarines Primarch finds out about the rift between the Raven Guard and the Claws.

At the end of the Scouring (after the chapter edict has been made but before Roboute Guilliman is wounded by Fulgrim) Roboute Guilliman on behalf of Corax submits to Terra that the Claws of Corax are a successor of the Raven Guard. The Raven Guard themselves not knowing of the successor chapter for it is not logged in the chapters records.

In the modern era the chapter has become somewhat divergent speciallising in Drop Pod insertion and close quarters fire fights. The Scout and devastator companies train in the arts of stealth, laying beacons for the drop pod insertions. The tactical companies specialise in the Drop Pod insertion. The assualt company called the Diablo Drongos (Drongo is a bird that looks like an exotic raven) is where the battle brother is issued a Diablo Pattern Bolt Pistoland are considered more veteran than tactical companies. The Battle companies are where the elements are combined to create a synergy force.

Well, I guess I will say something, if only because I love the Raven Guard.

Now as I understand it, this is based partially on what happened in Deliverance Lost, with the Alpha Legion and all that. I really cannot comment on that, because I haven't read that book, I don't know if it's any good or if I would accept it into my personal canon.

But, I think you haven't gotten to the good stuff yet, the stuff this forum really concerns itself with. What are these guys like? What is their soul? What is their character? Beyond that there's not much for me to comment on.
