citadel spray gun problem

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

just a quick question to see if anyone has any ideas on a problem I have....

Basically I was bought the "flamer" paint gun for christmas.

I tried using it yesterday to prime (already undercoated with black spray can) my razorback with Orkhide Shade foundation paint. I am putting enough orkhide it to get to the first mark on the left of the paintpot and then enough water to take it up to the first mark on the right.

basically the spray comes out lovely and covers really well, but within a few seconds of the paint going on the vehicle it starts to turn blue...like the paint is "unmixing", the blue that is seperating and laying on top of the green is part of the pigments that go into orkhide to make it the colour it i!

I just tried spraying it again this evening and put a tiny bit less water in...but its still done it. Do you think I need to use even less water maybe?

its a shame it really isnt working well as I can prime the whole razorback in like 20seconds instead of half an hour using a paintbrush!

The odd colour change can happen even when you paint with GW foundation colour if you over thin them. It might take some practice getting your paint to the right consistancy, but if your seeing that problem again add more paint as your mix is a little bit thin. I've used foundations through the flamer and an airbrush with no such colour change, so it can be done. It's just practice.

Good luck with future attempts.

Thanks for a helpful reply...

Indeed it does seem that I was just trying with too thin a paint. As a say, last time I sprayed there was a hint of pigment separation right down the bottom of the razorback...which will be covered by weathering and such anyway
