LPC - Belial and friends

Thank you Brother Kovash. I think to key to the smooth coating is ensuring the final white drybrush is properly watered down. It's actually remarkably easy to paint the armour with nothing but washes and drybrushing.

Boy, am I glad I have plenty of time to work on the Deathwing standard! I enjoy this kind of intricate painting but it's not a fast process. Here's a WIP shot of the last part of my vow.

I dont know what is more impressive here. The detail of the tower or the red and white chequers... I assume you'll add the Angel but this will require Corswain-like courage! I mean you've done such a great job on the background... This has huge potential Cactus, cant wait to see it completed!

Thanks Captain S, I have a game against some Blood Angels planned for next weekend so I hope to finish him before then.

[edit] I hope it wasn't the checks that you liked best, I've just covered half of them with some scrollwork.

Vow complete! It's now past 2am so here are some poorly lit pictures of my Deathwing apothecary and company standard bearer.

I should have access to a proper camera at the weekend to take some better photos of all ten models.

:D

This banner is top notch! You've done an amazing job there Cactus - you should be proud! The detail is amazing and your skill stands out big time! Love the Apothecary too! first your Balial and then these guys... wow, just wow!!!

Congratulations for completing your vow - and for reporting it to the official thread

I must echo the others and say that's an amazing freehand on the banner. Rest of the models are very good also.

One small detail though.. the DW symbol on shoulder pads could be a little bit darker to diminish "Xmas tree effect" that DW suffers from .. Entirely up to preference though. :cuss

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for all the kind words. I gave the scrolls a wash of gryphonne sepia and painted a border round Belial's hood since taking those earlier photos. I've also jazzed up all the bases with some of Army Painter's 'winter tuft' adhesive grass - little clumps of stiff grass with a sticky underside.

Here's the promised group shot of Belial and his homies.

In addition to my vow I've created three objective markers and alternative arms for sergeant Jericho. He can now take to the field with a plasma pistol, chainsword, power mace or power fist.

Since I started lighting my photos with two lamps I've been getting that streaky strobing effect. Any ideas how to get rid of it? Increasing the exposure made it a little better. (The blurring at the corners of the group shot is an intentional effect added later.)

Has nobody recognised the citadel being struck by lightning on the company standard? ;)
