Cactus
Thank you Brother Kovash. I think to key to the smooth coating is ensuring the final white drybrush is properly watered down. It's actually remarkably easy to paint the armour with nothing but washes and drybrushing. Boy, am I glad I have plenty of time to work on the Deathwing standard! I enjoy this kind of intricate painting but it's not a fast process. Here's a WIP shot of the last part of my vow. http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120311_153939.jpg?t=1331481983 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244885-lpc-belial-and-friends/page/2/#findComment-3013085 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
I dont know what is more impressive here. The detail of the tower or the red and white chequers... I assume you'll add the Angel but this will require Corswain-like courage! I mean you've done such a great job on the background... This has huge potential Cactus, cant wait to see it completed! Cactus
Thanks Captain S, I have a game against some Blood Angels planned for next weekend so I hope to finish him before then. [edit] I hope it wasn't the checks that you liked best, I've just covered half of them with some scrollwork. Isiah
That's an amazing looking DW company standard thus far ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244885-lpc-belial-and-friends/page/2/#findComment-3013226 Share on other sites
Cactus
Vow complete! It's now past 2am so here are some poorly lit pictures of my Deathwing apothecary and company standard bearer. http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120316_021352.jpg?t=1331864791 http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120316_020624.jpg?t=1331865512 I should have access to a proper camera at the weekend to take some better photos of all ten models. Droma
The banner is looking great Cactus, so does your apothecary. I'm also totally jealous of the forge world shoulder pads. If GW actually releases a deathwing box when our codex finally gets updated I think I'll have to splurge a little and buy some. Interrogator Stobz
Huge congrats on your vow Cactus. Really cool banner freehand, not to mention the smooth as bone and other details all around the place. Well done, get that sig. banner up mate. s Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244885-lpc-belial-and-friends/page/2/#findComment-3017218 Share on other sites
Chaplain Lucifer
I must echo the others and say that's an amazing freehand on the banner. Rest of the models are very good also. One small detail though.. the DW symbol on shoulder pads could be a little bit darker to diminish "Xmas tree effect" that DW suffers from .. Entirely up to preference though. :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244885-lpc-belial-and-friends/page/2/#findComment-3017250 Share on other sites
Isiah
Awesome sauce banner and Apoth - the latter's medic tools do look a little scary. Hexagon Sun
Not to diminish the rest of the painting but the banner is something special, you should be really proud of it. I know I would be! Cactus
Thanks for all the kind words. I gave the scrolls a wash of gryphonne sepia and painted a border round Belial's hood since taking those earlier photos. I've also jazzed up all the bases with some of Army Painter's 'winter tuft' adhesive grass - little clumps of stiff grass with a sticky underside. Here's the promised group shot of Belial and his homies. http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120331_182538.jpg?t=1333216890 In addition to my vow I've created three objective markers and alternative arms for sergeant Jericho. He can now take to the field with a plasma pistol, chainsword, power mace or power fist. http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120331_181612.jpg?t=1333217077 http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120331_181515.jpg?t=1333217150 http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb440/Cactus-/20120331_181648.jpg?t=1333217005 Since I started lighting my photos with two lamps I've been getting that streaky strobing effect. Any ideas how to get rid of it? Increasing the exposure made it a little better. (The blurring at the corners of the group shot is an intentional effect added later.) Has nobody recognised the citadel being struck by lightning on the company standard? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244885-lpc-belial-and-friends/page/2/#findComment-3029189 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Yessss!!! Citadel indeed - I thought is looked familiar! ;) Well played Cactus! hahahaha! Oh and the biker arms + objectives earn you a purity seal! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244885-lpc-belial-and-friends/page/2/#findComment-3029205 Share on other sites
