I need help with my Logan Wing List

I just recently bought my space wolves codex and Im putting together my Logan wing army and I want terminators to be a larg part of my army. I need help figuring out how to deck them out. I know they should be individualistic with thier loudouts but how I exaclty do I go about doing it? How many should I have with thunder hammers and storm shields or lighting claws or storm bolters and storm shields? I want four squads of five wolf gaurd terminaters and two squads of ten wolf gaurd without terminator armour. I already have logen grimnar, a land raider redeemer with melta gun. That totals up for 525 points so far not counting the drop pods and wolf guard yet.

I also was advised by other players at the store I should have an odd number of drop pods. Like 7.

What do you guys think?

Odd number of pods because on the first turn half of your pods rounded up, so 4 out of 7, drop immediately. And the other 3 come in normal reserves.

For each unit of WG in tda try for at least 2-3 SS, 1-2 hammers, maybe a pair of claws, and some combi/heavy weapons.

You need to design your packs for individual purposes. If you are podding your Terminators in think about what role they will play within your army and fit them into that role accordingly. I would suggest you add more Storm Shields if you are wanting to hold/claim objectives. Kind of like a close combat build. Heavy Flamers will be better as far as heavy weapons go for that. But you wouldn't want to run a bunch of shields for a shoot/support squad. Combi-weapons are a great addition to this kind of army, so take advantage of them. They only cost 5 points!! Speaking of which, isn't having the ability to re-roll hit/wounds better in a power weapon that also costs 5 points?? Wolf Claws are also your best friend.

Here are two sample units that I run in my WolfWing:

This is a more assault or objective holding pack

TDA / Chain Fist / Storm Shield / Heavy Flamer

TDA / Wolf Claw / Storm Shield

TDA / Wolf Claw / Storm Shield

TDA / Combi-Melta / Wolf Claw

Arjac Rockfist OR TDA / Storm Bolter / Power Weapon

Here is my all comers list:

TDA / Storm Bolter /Power Fist / Cyclone Missile Launcher

TDA / Storm Shield / Wolf Claw

TDA / Combi-Melta / Wolf Claw

TDA / Combi-Plas / Wolf Claw

TDA / Storm Bolter / Power Weapon

Hope this helps!!

About having more storm shields. Thats what I was thinking. The thing is im thinking of gearing them more towards assualt as in sending them in head on to pound the enemy and my WG without terminater armour to be more towards shootie. Should my terminators still have some storm bolters. Also I forgot to mention I am planning to put my teriminators in drop pods.

Drop pods are not assault vehicles, so be wary of slogging your termi's across the board to get into some hand to hand. Five models with five storm shields is going to cost you loads of points, and on a one wound model that's seems like a sink to me. I would recommend running three at the most. Obviously cover will be another best friend for you. And being able to soften up the intended victims with bolter fire before you assault is always good, keeping a few 'guns' is probably also a good idea.

The all comers list I posted before is almost always the list I use for podding, as it has a bit of everything in it. It can shoot quite well and does slightly better in close combat.

End of Line

I wouldn't run more than 2 storm shields in any 5 man tda purely due to cost. WG can be loaded out in a bunch of different ways, depends on what you want to do with them, and how you're getting them into the fight.

I tend to go for 1 combi melta, 1 combiplasma, 1 storm shield and 1 thunder hammer OR chainfist in my average squads - you've got 5 unique models then. I've got three/four of these as my base loganwing army, and Cyclone wolf guards go with my missile long fangs (definitely advised in loganwing). Maybe throw in a wolf claw per squad if the points are spare, the rerolls always come in handy and they're cheap at 5pts.

Then I will be running Logan with a mixed armour unit, 3 TDA / 2 PA, 4 combiplasma, 3 wolf claws, 1 storm shield. Relentless on landing to plaster the nearest thing with plasma, then assault next turn, lots of rerolls, some inv save and Logan's Axe Morkai for MEQ or higher bashing.

I also fancy Arjac with a mixed armour unit, 3 TDA / 2 PA, 5 combimelta, 2 wolf claws, 1 storm shield. Sen this after the biggest mech stuff. Should perform similar to the Logan squad.

Reason I go for mixed armour is 1). one more wound 2). one more shooter, and it's about the same price.

I'm also running this beauty in an apoc game in feb: Ragnar, Wolf Guard leader + fist, 8 Grey Hunters +standard +power weapon in a drop pod, 473pts. I WAS going to run a wolf guard squad with him for the extra attack and weapon options, but you really can't beat the wolf standard with ragnar.

But all this is based on DP assault. I'd do things a lot different if Logan and the wolf guard were footslogging or in raiders.
