Gurth
Given that I have no idea what you mean by "blacking method" I suppose I've never used it — or at least, not knowing some people call it that :D But do you mean painting Grey Knight models using a method normally used to paint models in medieval-style plate armour? In that case, I don't see why it shouldn't work — and you could always try one model to see whether you like the outcome. ShinyRhino
From my brief Google search, "armor blackening" involves boiling a piece of metal in oil, or soakign and then applying flame to a sheen of oil on metal to achieve a glossy black surface. I'm not sure how you'd go about boiling your models in oil, but if you mean simply painting your Grey Knights in glossy black colors instead of shiny silver...go for it. We have a player locally who painted all his GKs red. Alright, I'm going to have to ask - what exactly do you mean by 'blacking method'? The only thing I could think of is what ShinyRhino has already covered. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244903-grey-knights-black-knight/#findComment-2962715 Share on other sites
winterdyne
They're your models, you can paint them as you wish. I wouldn't attempt blacking them traditionally; just paint them black, highlight as normal for black - nice tight, fairly high contrast edges and VERY subtle area blends, then gloss varnish. :-) Keep the gold / brass detail for contrast, maybe OSL the eyes and it'd look pretty damn good I think. mcsneed17
The orginal method was to use ash or soot to tone-down the armor that is why they called it black armor. Inquisitor Engel
Well, I'm not sure what you'r looking for but my Grey Knight Terminators (who are now useless outside of Apoc) look like this: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5094/5412383635_c89194d79f_b.jpg They're designed to look like the original Index Astartes ones, which were black. I removed the silver gauntlet because it threw things off though. They're Adeptus Battlegrey, several heavy Badab Black washes, a highlight of Adeptus Battlegrey and a final highlight of Codex Grey. If you're looking for dark Grey Knights, I strongly recommend it.
