Running with the wolves.

So its finally happened.

After many years of trying to avoid it I've been drawn into the wolves. I have been collecting for the past 10+ years and never really understood why people liked their marines drunk and brawling until now.

Whats happened to change this is the fact that I have decieded to do a Logan wing list with Bjorn and Njal 3 squads of wolf guard 1 with arjac and THSS termies, 5 Termies with logan and 10 with Njal along with 2 Long fang squads with missiles. Oh and a redeemer and crusader. I know this sounds really cheesy but I generally don't play competativly. Plus the idea for this particular list is to go into a competition with a friend. The idea is a psuedo tale of two gamers where we have decided in order to motivate him to actually paint something we each build a unit per month (That way it works out slightly even due to the fact that he's building a mech guard list with a Baneblade.) The limit is 3000 points.

So now heres my problem. Marines are basically my drug. I have a tendency for starting an army and then just continually building on it. Ten years ago my Ultras started as a single tactical squad now they are almost a battle company. Less than a year ago my BAs started as a look in the codex and a want to create my own version of Astaroth now they are 1500 points strong.

So heres where my questions come in.

Is what I have in the list fluffy?

With Grimnars company is there room to expand? Is the Great Wolf's company just the same as another company or is it mainly wolf guard?

Do the companies have specific numbers or have the wolves abandoned the codex in this regard?

Is it wise to grow a beard while playing this list?

Fluff is really a matter of perspective... fluffy is when you can write a plausible piece of fluff to explain why your army is the way it is, and in that regard your list is fluffy. It could be a specialist force sent by Logan Grimnar to achieve a very specific task with extreme efficiency and minimal casualties, for example.

There is no regard in which the wolves do follow the codex. It is rumoured they keep a few copies around just in case toilet paper runs short the next time the Fang is under siege by the inquisition. So yes, they have abandoned the codex in that regard and every other regard as well, while they're at it. And no, there are no specific numbers. The largest companies (Ragnar Blackmane's in particular) have over 200 marines in it but there are also companies that are considerably smaller (I think generally still well over a hundred marines though). The sizes also fluctuate a lot because when they are deployed they shrink due to casualties that are then replenished when the great company returns to the Fang to take on new blood claw packs.

It is also worth noting that they generally don't merge packs to compensate for casualties. Instead packs are formed early on and continue to operate together, proceeding through the ranks from blood claws to Long Fangs (except for those marines that are promoted into the wolf guard, of course) until only a single pack member is left in some cases who then becomes a lone wolf.

Is it wise to grow a beard while playing this list?

It is never wise to grow a beard, but it has been known to occur as undesirable side effect if you want to save some money on your grooming needs so you can buy more wolves.

So its finally happened.

a must

*shoulder charges Evolved23 from the side sending him flailing through the air and skidding across the Wolf Guards table, knocking tankards and plates everywhere and Evolved23's head inbeded in the large elk head being eaten*

"Welcome pup. No drink offered then? Manners of the fresh intake!"

As for the questions. Logans GC is kinda special. Treat it like the 1st company of other chapters. All the Priests effectively come from the Wolf Lords Company too and are attached to others as needed. The good thing with that is it doesn't limit you to one Great Company. You could use a mixture if you want to.

Anyway, welcome to the ranks. Watch out for Greenhorn, he lies about everything. And, erm....you may want to get some fresh drinks and elk for those old codgers with the walking frames. They look a bit peeved ;)

Thanks for the hearty welcome brother (heh I guess I can actually say that rather than "cousin" and allow it to stick). Unfortunately all out of the beer it became missing in action after the last battle *belch*

All I've got is this honey based drink brewed locally, I hear its called "mead".

And why should I get them elk wheres the challenge in an animal thats the size of a barn door and doubly slow and no threat at all!

What you need is a good old wild boar my friend these vicious things'll have your hide if your not careful!

On a side note thanks for all the advise, mebbes my 3000 point list can increase a little bit further with some grey hunters and a certain slayer character.

So its finally happened. It was bound to happen

Is what I have in the list fluffy?matter of opinion.I say its ok

With Grimnars company is there room to expand? Is the Great Wolf's company just the same as another company or is it mainly wolf guard? It like another GC but with priests and likely some more WG

Do the companies have specific numbers or have the wolves abandoned the codex in this regard?Abandoned implies we actually followed the codex astartes at some time,so no we didn't abandon it since we never adopted/followed it

Is it wise to grow a beard while playing this list?Is it wise to go into battle with atleast Power armor?yes yes it is :tu:
