Stormravens on parade

I was thinking it was a deep strike mishap that ended in a firey glop of orange eggplant death due to the person standing there with his "how do you like me now?" pose. Completely missed the Beetles tribute bus on the right. All that's missing was a logo....

Before GW released their kit, or even a pic of it, I figured I go with a VTOL design based on an HK from the Terminator movie. I even used a Terminator Salvation HK model I picked up of ebay.

Then GW released their model, and my first thoughts where 'its too stubby', although I do agree with the each to their own attitude, and will always compliment someone on a nicely built/painted model. Anywho, using GW's kit, I wanted to follow the same VTOL design path. So this was my next SR.

And the 2 models together

I've had mixed reviews of them, but I am happy over all <_<

Those two are great! Especially the engine mounting. They really explain without words how the contents deploy with precision! Valkyries and standard stormravens look to operate with the technique of: " Right lads! We are nearing our DZ and doing Mach 3. Jump on my exact command as we pass and pray to our emperor"

Also the colours look great. I think I will be drawing inspiration for it during the next couple of months. :)

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind comments guys :)

And be my guest Taranis :tu:

I made the extensions out of plasticard. But if your will to pay the extra expence, chapter house studios make a nice fusilage extension piece. Its more detailed than mine and half the work.

Simply beautiful work. Two of the same, just different Marks. ;) :cuss :eek

That is what I was hoping to achieve really. I knew they wouldn't look entirely alike, but I was suprised how close the two are in overall dimentions (length, hight, width, engine placement etc). Mixing vehicle variants is something I have done right across my force, so it fits in with that theme also. I do have another SR kit waiting to be built. What I was thinking for it, was doing the same as the 2nd SR, but copying the tail fins from my 1st SR instead. What do you guys think?

I quite like the model as is to be fair though I like the chapterhouse as a transporter variant sans turret but more than anything it makes me want a plastic Thunderhawk damnit!

It looks great. I like the silhouette without the servitor turret. The white squares are too bright for my taste, perhaps more black/dark? I think its very nice in appearance. I'm working on my own and am seriously considering how I want my Raven assembled. Yours is great inspiration. :)

Thanks for sharing, brother.

Well, I started this thread to get inspiration to my own stormraven project. And here it is.

Some very well painted and modeled SR's in this thread.

I went the simple route with mine (although I painted it GK/DC themed to get as much use out of it as possible) - no top turret (ugly) turned the wings around to balance the craft a bit more, and put some of the weapons under the wings.

Images not working... check out this BLOG LINKY to see my blog post with pics.

I also trimmed a small amount off the bottom of the craft at the front.

Its still too bulky, and I honestly think it would be cooler to model one using something a bit smaller, but just can't be bothered investing the money.

If I made another I'd reinforce the wings a bit more heavily as well, since being on backwards I had to remove the pieces which they 'fit' into to reverse them.

Not to mention you're creating a more visible target. If you really want to get technical and "fit" 12 infantry inside then take a look down at your feet. Do you see any 12mm (or whatever size they are) round bases attached? Take the bases off of your guys and they fit in any vehicle they're supposed to. ;)

best advise seen this year!
