CantonWC
You see, the thing is Canton... Mat Ward works for Games Workshop and you don't so when you're trying to discover whether a written piece 'works' in the context of 40k what do you compare it to? A piece of the official fluff or the opinion of an internet poster who thinks he knows better than the people Games Workshop employ? What Allfather has written fits perfectly with the kind of things we find in the official fluff for the game and you apparently have an issue with the kinds of things included in the fluff. That isn't Allfather's problem, that's yours. This is a game of toy soldiers set to the backdrop of O.T.T heroes overcoming impossible odds and triumphing despite great adversity and Allfather's fluff fits that perfectly. Again, it isn't his problem if you want to get sniffy about the fluff or pretend that it's rooted in some grand literary tradition that Ward is currently micturating upon. Your attitude is beginning to irritate me. I'm trying to remain civil and offer whatever advice I can to the TC. My perspective is just that. My perspective. So Ward works for GW, he's the official source, so I should just accept what he's trying to peddle to me? I think not. My personal canon is my personal canon; and everyone has their personal canon, so this is not me trying to sound like I know better. My corner of 40k has to make sense to me; but if someone wants to include some things I don't like into their personal canon, that's fine. That's entirely their right because everyone has an equal right to enjoy this hobby and interpret it however they like. I'm just offering my perspective. But don't expect me to accept Ward's trash into my personal canon. I don't even know what we're arguing about. TC, please give me more to critique. I'd like to get back on track. EDIT Also, thank you Ludovic. EDIT Some more thoughts for TC. During the seven year march to Terra he earned much glory, attracting the attention of the Chaos gods, receiving many gifts for his loyal service. When they finally arrived on Terra Shadryss proved his worth as a commander, being brevetted captain of the Sons' 17th company. I don't know. Maybe sergeant at most. Seven years is too short a time span. He would have to be utterly amazing, enough to impress Horus to grant him a captaincy in such a short time period. And he would be passing over plenty of fellows that have been there far longer and should be just as qualified. I'll need to fix it but Shadryss would stay with Abaddon because Abaddon is the best general/warlord Chaos has to offer and knows that he is the best chance they have to overthrow the Imperium and avenge Horus. I don't know. I'm sorry. I can't always articulate, so I'll say that something just feels a little off. Maybe you can sell it to someone better. During the last days of the 4th Crusade Shadryss was approached by Dark Apostle Charon of the Word Bearers, Charon reignited the fire within Shadryss when he told him that there was a way to bring Horus back. This also feels a little off to me. The Traitor Legions are obviously not friendly with each other. There will have been plenty of inter-Legion conflicts by the time Charon approaches, um, Shadryss. Why would the former want to reach out? Why would the latter trust him? Why Shadryss? That's all for now. Ace Debonair
I was going to have them wear the black and gold of the Black Legion. While the offically they would do it out of mourning (repressented by the black) and use the gold to symbolise a new dawn coming. But more importantly this would make them less noticable by the Imperium. They are just another Black Legion warband in their eyes. Devious. I like. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Res Ipsa Loquitur; the topic of suspension of disbelief and how come we Liberites can accept wacky things like Orks and 8ft tall supermen easier than one kill that seems 'out of place' is probably worthy of it's own discussion. I'm sure there's been others like it before, but my search-fu fails me. Since the last so many posts we've made have only been tangentially connected to the IA and more about suspension of disbelief in general, I'm wary of overstepping the Hijack-Line and getting Mod-Hammered in the face for my efforts. :) EDIT: Canton, out of curiosity, is there a reason you're referring to Allfather1 as TC? I shall depart before his pet moderator gives me another warning for having the temerity to answer back. ---------------------------- Allfather, your fluff rocks. I wouldn't change a thing. Allfather1
I don't know. Maybe sergeant at most. Seven years is too short a time span. He would have to be utterly amazing, enough to impress Horus to grant him a captaincy in such a short time period. And he would be passing over plenty of fellows that have been there far longer and should be just as qualified. After the comments I recieved I think i will have him be a sergeant when the Horus is defeated and have him serve in that capacity until Charon shows up. But he will still earn many Chaotic gifts because he is great warrior, just not a good enough leader to become a captain. I don't know. I'm sorry. I can't always articulate, so I'll say that something just feels a little off. Maybe you can sell it to someone better. When the changes have been incorporated Shadryss will be a sergeant so he won't have much choice, he can't quite the Legion and strike out on his own because he has too little support. So he will be displeased by Abaddon's rule but suffer it. This also feels a little off to me. The Traitor Legions are obviously not friendly with each other. There will have been plenty of inter-Legion conflicts by the time Charon approaches, um, Shadryss. Why would the former want to reach out? Why would the latter trust him? Why Shadryss? I was thinking about that just the other day, what if Charon recieved a vission that pointed him to Shadryss' warband but didn't know who would support him but that some would? After Abaddon led the Traitor Legions in a Black Crusade the distrust would be less then directly after the Legion wars so this could be why Shadryss trusts him. In the fluff the Black Legion is composed of many renegades and marines from other Legions, so maybe Charon joined under the guise of wanting to join the Legion. Devious. I like. Thanks. So he will be displeased by Abaddon's rule but suffer it. Perhaps it simply doesn't occur to him to leave Horus' Legion until Charon points out Horus isn't coming back? This also feels a little off to me. The Traitor Legions are obviously not friendly with each other. There will have been plenty of inter-Legion conflicts by the time Charon approaches, um, Shadryss. After Abaddon led the Traitor Legions in a Black Crusade the distrust would be less then directly after the Legion wars so this could be why Shadryss trusts him. Visions of Shadryss at the head of a warband doing great and terrible things in the names of the Dark Gods would make a pretty compelling vision for a Word Bearer, I reckon. In the fluff the Black Legion is composed of many renegades and marines from other Legions, so maybe Charon joined under the guise of wanting to join the Legion. Works for me. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244952-disciples-of-horus/page/2/#findComment-2965445 Share on other sites
