Can Apothecaries take power weapons?

Listing in C:SM for the command squad just has vets with the options, so I'm thinking they can't. But figured I'd ask to make sure before I went building mine.

Thank you

You are correct, they cannot take additional equipment. The entry specifies that Veterans may take the additional gear, and the Apothecary has a seperate, non-Veteran statline entry.

BA codex apothecaries (now called "Sanguine Priests") can take power weapons. :)

Correct but the closest equivalent of the Vanilla Apothecary is the Sanguinary Novitiate in our Honour Guard and he unfortunately cannot take power weapons :(

in my opinion a dumb rule, but it is the rule. Apothecaries/Sanguinary Novitiates should be allowed upgrades, but they aren't.

I mean, they're noviates; new to their position. Maybe an apothecary needs more tenure before they're allowed special weapons training (beyond the Narthecium). In any case, we're in accord.

I can understand why they can't take weapons, as it creates a wound allocation decision, do you dump a wound onto the Apothecary that he will probably save but risk losing FnP, or do you stick it onto a power weapon and risk losing that model? Of course I just use Honour Guard now, it's quite a simple process, first on normal guys, then banner, then Champion, simple :P.

Otherwise, yes; Deux Ex Ferrum is correct.

Templars can take Apthoecaries with PW's hehe ;) Of course we have to give them T. Honor's first but hey, then they can gear up with anything from the armory

The Dark Angel Codex has three ways to get an Apothecary.

The Terminator Squad Apothecary can take any available weapons including the heavy weapons.

The Command Squad could take a power weapon/fist.

The Ravenwing Bikes have no way to take power weapons.

You silly Templars and your ancient Codex. Enjoy it while you can! You and your invincible Land Raiders. :P

I think we've just about covered all of the codecies now, no? SW Apothecaries are actually their "chaplains", no? They have no FNP-adding model anymore iirc? (I could be totally wrong about that; which is why I'm posting it haha.)

Except they're already veterans. Their novitiates *at being sanguinary priests*, not at being space marines. Presumably their promotion didn't cause them to forget how to use power weapons.

When rules and fluff disagree, round 17, fight. Rules win, but man does it feel silly.

I mean it's not really clear to me when veterans receive what training. It at best varies from chapter to chapter. Likely a power weapon is the first specialist melee weapon a marine receives training in; however it's possible (and perhaps the implication here) that training with the narthecium and space marine "parts" comes before even that for the priesthood/apothecarion.

None of that is rules, of course. :)

These are blood angels we're talking about. =)
