cruentus mortum
Hail Brothers of the emperium. Thanks with the heads up on using traitor legion gene seed to start my chapter...... BUT having a look through, it now makes me ask the question, why were members of traitor legions (untouched by chaos during the heresy) used as a nucleus for the Grey Knights. Have not the other survivors (surly there would be some as to me the books do not seem to finnish them off) not also earned this same honour, or at least a chance to clear their chapters name and gain some form of revenge. What would/could be done with them? Would they be hidden for all time, destroyed, tortured.....Or would it be best to turn their anger and revenge against their one time brothers, the imperium can treat them as if they do not exist, or help them out with a little gear and gene seed from time to time, or a one time gift before sending them on this one way trip. Who best to send after them than those who once fought and died with them as brothers? Hell thats just my opinion. I know what is written, but reading between the lines, it gives the Penitants a slight, and it does look slight, chance at redemption. if it was me, I would want to die trying to right this wrong. Ace Debonair
So if I understand you correctly, you want a Chapter that's initally made up of hitherto un-named loyalist survivors of the traitor legions from the Heresy era? It wouldn't be an easy thing to write convincingly. The Imperium, that vast and paranoid society, especially just after the Heresy, is as likely to trust/arm survivors from the traitor legions as it is to start celebrating Talk Like An Ork Day. And the survivors would know they could never, ever be able to redeem their Legions' reputations, not even if they eradicated every Chaos marine in the galaxy. It's not that it isn't a cool idea, mind. It's just a bit hard to believe that the newly-declared Chaos Marines couldn't even purge their own ranks of unbelievers effectively enough to prevent such a thing happening. With that said, a Chapter in a later founding (perhaps intenionally) patterned somewhat after a traitor legion in terms of personality and combat style could be a surreptitious attempt by the Imperium to replace what the Heresy took from them - but in such a case it'd be better to avoid talking about how like [Traitor Legion Z] they are directly. CantonWC
The Imperium, that vast and paranoid society, especially just after the Heresy, is as likely to trust/arm survivors from the traitor legions as it is to start celebrating Talk Like An Ork Day. I would celebrate such a holiday... Traitor Chapters can be done. They can be done. But it takes a writer of some skill to pull it off. I would need to be confident in your writing skills before I gave my blessing, for whatever that may be worth to you. With that said, a Chapter in a later founding (perhaps intenionally) patterned somewhat after a traitor legion in terms of personality and combat style could be a surreptitious attempt by the Imperium to replace what the Heresy took from them I think this would be an excellent variation on the usual Traitor Chapter. A Chapter with unquestionable loyalty who may nonetheless be subjected to unfair or unfounded suspicion, simply because their credo, aesthetic or strategy is a little too close to the Traitor Legions. cruentus mortum
Yes. A chapter of hitherto un named loyalist survivors, (are not all marines unknown untill someone tells their storey). from the traitor legions. What happened to the remaining marines from the Eisenstien? Thousands went to the surface and faced months of battle, many hundreds were there at the end to face the virus bombing, they had warning and hid, there will be survivors! They have training, skill and revenge to help them survive. A stain like this on a chapter would be something that could never be redeemed, but part of a marine is not just his size, implants, training and his weapons but his make up,his sense of what is wright and what is wrong, his honour and pride. I know pride is part of what caused the HH. but to these marines... they could not just give up and die or sit idly by. They would fight. Fight and die knowing what they are doing can not change the past or their future, they know that they will always be hunted and despised. These Marines will die to take as many traitors with them as they can. They will die knowing that they are still loyal and good servants of the imperium. I doubt any one of them survived. But from the Eisenstein, they could have survived and been put into a Chapter, who knows? Destecado
You could call them the Mulligans. Just kidding. Still, second chances are hard to come by; especially in the 40k universe. While I am sure that there may have been survivors, that did not make the cut for the Grey Knights, I personally don’t see the Imperium reforming them into a separate new chapter. They might however give them an opportunity to die honorably as the vanguard of an assault….selling their lives dearly, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy, to open the way for the advance of other Imperial forces. Such noble sacrifice to regain ones honor might be too inspired by eastern cultures for your sensibilities, but the promise of an honorable death might be all that many of these survivors had to look forward to.
