Seahawk
I played in another tournament this weekend at the Chicago bunker and did...exactly the same as in this tournament too. That's not the only similar thing, as you'll see with game 2...but let's begin! My list Grandmaster - blind/rad/psychotroke grenades (dang, I just realized I never used the blind yesterday, arg!), master-crafted sword Librarian - 3 servoskulls, master-crafted sword, Shrouding/Sanctuary Paladin - master-crafted sword 5 GKT - incinerator, 3 halberds, hammer 5 GKSS - psycannon, 4 halberds Razorback - twin-linked assault cannon, psybolts, dozer blade 5 GKSS - psycannon, 4 halberds Razorback - twin-linked assault cannon, psybolts, dozer blade Storm Raven - lascannon, multi-melta Storm Raven - lascannon, multi-melta Game 1 vs Imperial Guard Company Command Squad Rambo Platoon 1 - PCS - lascannon - PS1 - lascannon, Commissar - PS2 - lascannon - PS3 - lascannon - PS4 - lascannon Platoon 2 - PCS - 3 grenade launchers - PS1 - meltagun, power sword, Commissar w/power sword - PS2 - meltagun, power sword - PS3 - meltagun, power sword - PS4 - meltagun - PS5 - meltagun 3 Griffons - heavy flamers 3 Basilisks - heavy bolters All the missions had three objectives; achieve more than your opponent and you win. In this one it was 1: Seize Ground (5 objectives), 2: Annihilation, and 3: Have more units fully in your deployment zone than he has in yours at the end of the game. Lastly, our deployment was Spearhead. Since it was KP, he blobbed up, so now he had less KP than me (8 to my 10)!!! That and his artillery was where it should be, and I was thinking I'd be in a world of hurt. Can't assault the blobs cause they'd eventually grind me down, can't shoot them because then I'd take arty rounds...I ended up choosing the assault route. The terminators and grandmaster slammed into them and eventually whittled them down to just 6 models. I was doing fine and slowly killing off his stuff (neutralized his artillery early with the ravens, as it turned out). The librarian's shrouding kept my birds in the air for longer than they would have normally (rolled a lot of 3's). Finally though, the luck broke. Turn 3, Rambo arrived next to the librarian/paladin, who had just finished slaughtering a PCS. The CCS strolled over and ordered themselves to first rank second rank fire! They put on a total of 5 wounds on the pair. I allocated 3 to the paladin, who promptly died (blarg, stupid lasguns!). Rambo then stuck his demo charge on the librarian's back and danced away in time to watch the librarian go kablooey. Additionally on that turn, storm raven got shot down and the grandmaster failed both of his 3+ inv saves and died. Ugh, 4 kill points to him that turn... It turned back around to me though, and in the end I eked out 1 more kill point than he, got my raven and a squad into his DZ, and we tied on objectives 2-2. Win to the Grey Knights! Game 2 vs Grey Knights (ugh again, see the last tournament) Coteaz Xenos Inquisitor - rad/psychotroke grenades Techmarine - rad/psychotroke grenades 6 Purifiers - 2 psycannons, 2 halberds, 2 hammers Rhino - searchlight 7 Henchmen - 5 DCA, 2 Crusaders Rhino 7 Henchmen - 5 DCA, 2 Crusaders Rhino 3 Henchmen - 3 acolytes Razorback - twin-linked assault cannon, psybolts, searchlight 3 Henchmen - 3 acolytes Razorback - twin-linked assault cannon, psybolts, searchlight 3 Henchmen - 3 servitors w/plasma cannons, 1 acolyte Chimera - searchlight Psy-rifle Dread Psy-rifle Dread Psy-rifle Dread Sigh, another boring meme-no-theme list on the second round (who ends up winning the tournament, just like last time!). I've decided I have to stop doing so well on the first round so I stop facing these! The mission was all objectives on Dawn of War. I gave him first turn so Coteaz's abilities would be wasted. I knew I couldn't win by capturing the objectives, so all my vaunted AT stuff would crack the transports and I could easily destroy the stuff inside. Just. Like. Last. Time, this failed horribly as I either didn't penetrate or didn't wreck when I did, despite having really good odds. My Ravens did the dance and one lived to the end of the game, though it was immobilized in a poor place. All my stuff failed saves and died once that happened. Oh well...lesson learned is that I absolutely cannot face the GK meme-spam lists with what I field, as I'll be outnumbered and outgunned by enemies with the same abilities as me. Loss for the Grey Knights! (mine :() Game 3 vs Tyranids (player was brother to second game, so I got the names all confused when talking to them  ) Tervigon - adrenal glands, toxins sacs, catalyst Tervigon - adrenal glands, toxins sacs, catalyst 3 Hive Guard 2 Hive Guard Tervigon - adrenal glands, toxins sacs, catalyst Tervigon - adrenal glands, toxins sacs, catalyst 11 Termagants 11 Termagants 11 Genestealers - adrenal glands 10 Genestealers - adrenal glands When I walked around and looked at the armies, this is the one I most wanted to play against (tons of IG and DE this time around, strangely). I've never played against the massed tervigon army and wanted to give it a try. Luckily, that's exactly what happened. The mission was modified kill points, kill the enemy general (chosen HQ), and another unit targeted for termination. He went first, and his hive guard blew up the razorback that had his chosen target in it (I had thought they were "safe" inside their box). The squad inside lost two models and fled off the table! Bah! On my first turn then, I unleashed all my psy-missiles and gunship weapons at his general tervigon (and the chosen unit of termagants happened to be next to it ;)). Despite having a few misses, the tervigon was destroyed. With its death, the termagants behind it all kerploded too (I rolled a 17 for the number of hits ;))! I commented that it was starting to feel like apocalypse, with whole units being removed at a time. After that, we could only describe the game's results as...strange. There was a lot of back and forth, silly cover saves made by the birds again, til finally there was a big scrum in the middle. My Terminators and grandmaster charged a newly spawned unit of termagants, while the paladin/librarian attacked the tervigon that could have lost me the game. I predictably killed the gaunts, but the tervigon survived. Next turn, the genestealers got into it (cast Sanctuary, killed off four of the blighters (and then forgot I had defensive/psychotroke grenades, dang!), though they couldn't do enough damage anyway. The paladin, having taken a wound from the tervigon last round, dealt it a wound. On three dice (for Shadow in the Warp) he succeeded his Force Weapon roll on a 1,1,2 and epically blew apart the tervigon! Then he suffered a perils and saved the first rolled on a 6, but failed the second. It was epic that they killed each other. Next I cut down all the genestealers for no loss, and I got the last objective. Win to the Grey Knights! I finished 10th out of 26 players with a decent painting score, despite my vehicles only having the base colors and slight work done. They need to be finished! I'll put up a pic tonight of my infantry though, as they're basically done. Something Wycked
Right on, Seahawk, well played  I imagine you'd have had better results with different mission types- the units in that other Grey Knights list would go down pretty easy in mission 3. 2-1 records in tourneys aren't anything to scoff at, especially when you're facing lists like Game 2 without a min/maxed list of your own :( Thanks for the batreps! Seahawk
They should have gone down easy in the game I faced them! Melta/Las/Psycannon vs armor 11! Failed miserably... He actually never disembarked, and I only did when I was forced to. I would much have liked to assault the squishy bits, but alas, GK are the bane of my GK... BLACK BLΠFLY
That is a problem with the grenades - I also often forgot to use them when I was using a generic Grand Master. Anyways I think you did very well. The IG list looks as hard as nails and I know that Coteaz list isn't fun to have to play against either. Well done brother. :nuke: G :nuke: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244993-1500-point-tournament/#findComment-2962815 Share on other sites
