Thanks for the tip, Kassill! My friend is basically mentoring me through a lot of the painting in 40k, and he said at my skill level, I need to emphasize a clean paint job and the depth/highlights will come later. That'll be what I'm working on next

The flocking was harder to get a snow effect I really liked. THe process basically went like this:

1: Paint the top of the base white

2: Clear off a spot on cardboard/another surface. Get a generous helping of Elmer's glue, mix in some white paint, and then put the GW snow flock all together and mix.

3: Keep adding the snow flock til it gets to a malleable consistency and apply to the base.

4: Dip the whole thing in GW Snow Flock

5: Position the figure on the snow how you want it and press down a little bit, making footprint indentions.

This can help you to lean your figures back or over. A lot of Marines, I notice, look like they're falling forward, so I tried to make sure I had some that were leaning back a bit and this helped a lot.

6: Take the figure off, wait for it all to dry (this might take a couple hours) and then superglue the figure on.

You can optionally spread some superglue across the whole thing, giving it a shiny finish. It'll also dissolve some of the Elmer's, giving the snow some depth and helping it all to harden together.
