Horus - Soul Destroyed?

I'm in an argument and I need a reference, stat!

Every time the duel between Horus and the Emperor comes up, there are references to Big E obliterating Horus's soul - but I'm a little dismayed that I cannot find a direct, irrefutable reference. I know this 'soul destroyed' thing came from somewhere; I'm trying to find the source where it says so, plain as day.

Please help, if you know of a source!

It's in the Collected Visions isn't it? The Emperor utterly destroys Horus - physically and spiritually.

It is not implicitly stated that, but because they were fighting on both levels and both had to be destroyed to deny the Dark Gods a chance of getting Horus back and how it is written in the Collected Visions, it's safe to assume that he was completely and utterly destroyed both in the material realm and the Warp.

Horus wasn't physically destroyed, although his soul was. His body remained... if you'll remember, Emperor's Children stole it and Fabius attempted to clone Horus (which resulted in a huge war in the Eye). After that, Abbaddon had Horus' body destroyed.

True that, I had forgotten about it :P

Cheers for picking up on that though :)

I thought the reason Big E destroyed his soul was to spare him from Chaos in the end, because he still loved him.

Emperor is not type of guy with paternal love. I'm not saying he didn't love Horus but love is no factor in his decisions.

If love wasn't a factor in his decisions, he would have killed Horus single handedly.

There's two conflicting stories on this.

First in collected visions it says that as the Ruinous Powers surrender their influence on Horus and retreat the from the battle, the Emperor sees Horus as he was, the pure son he always knew. It says since the Emperor knows he's more or less :cussed that he'd like to leave Horus alive now he's uncorrupted but he knows that he won't be able to resist Chaos a second time and that time around there'd be no Big E to save him so he needs to outright destroy him to rule out the chance of this happening again.

That version of events jars with the story of how Abbadon became Warmaster though. If the Emperor destroyed Horus on a physical, psychic and spiritual level then how did the Despoiler steal Horus' lightening claw and how did he later destroy his body himself?

Well, Horus was killed, but his body appeared to be mostly intact. When Abaddon led the counterattack to recover Horus's body he yoinked the Talon of Horus - might as well use it since Horus has no more need for it.

Later on Horus's body was stolen by the Emperor's Children and used to make at least one clone of Horus as part of their silly science experiments. Abaddon didn't like that, so he led an attack and destroyed both the clone and the original body.

why did abbadon destroy the clone and why again was he opposed to having another horus, i mean. he did kindave almost destroy the imperium and abbadon keeps only going on his black crusades that never get past cadia.
"Horus was weak. Horus was a fool. He had the whole galaxy within his grasp and he let it slip away."

daddy issues.

Back in 'The Day' (aka Chaos 3.5), I used to tool around with the notion that the Emperor blasted Horus out of his body, which remained behind, basically taking the battle to the purely psychic realm of the Warp, and that the reason the Emperor has been sitting on his golden toilet for 10K+ years and not healing up is that he's still fighting Horus in the Warp, preventing Horus from being resurrected via daemonhood in the same fashion as Angron was after Armageddon. Obviously, this isn't how things actually are, but I still think back fondly to that little braingasm of mine.
