Do you use Assault Marines in your DA army?

I don't, they're a bit expensive for what they offer, Vets are cheaper, have an extra attack and higher leadership and have much better options. A transport evens out the manoeuvrability that the assault marines offer and gives the vets protection and fire support as well.

Plus I need my fast slots for land speeders, and if I had any, bikes.

Unless you're playing on a board dominated by impassable terrain, there's not much need for assault marines, company veterans can do their job better, for cheaper.

Most DA players do not use assault marines regularly. The biggest reason is they cost way too many points and tend not to make them back. Although I do think assault marines are a cool and flavorful unit and I'd love to use them if the point costs made them worth it.
I've used them before, but only in a group of 5 with a power weapon. Our Assault Squads are kind of limited when it comes to special weapons. The only guns we can give our guys are plasma pistols. BA get to bring flamers, meltaguns, hand flamers and infernus pistols. Vanilla marines get to bring flamers. The other codices just have better options than we do.

I haven't been happy with assault squads since third ed took away the option to have flamers, meltaguns and plasma guns. I did use them though, led by an interrogator-chaplain with lightning claws until that combination was removed too. They're also fun in cityfighting games - flying into the third floor of an enemy-held building, heedless of the dangerous terrain tests is FUN. I wouldn't recommend it for its efficiency or effectiveness though.

I also agree 100% with what Tengo wrote and will add that the veteran models are much more interesting, and more stable.

I agree with everything except the "even" maneuverability. Truth is, that transport can't reasonably expect to make it past turn two, at which point the passengers might find themselves legging it across an open field... and being slow and power armored offers less protection than being fast and power armored...so they have decent speed (they're only 6-D6" faster than a runner!) and good protection up front, but it's very easy to take away!

Not only are assault marines faster than a rhino (12+D6>12!), they don't lose their speed till the last man dies.

I use them every game, led by an Interrogator-Chaplain w/ JP named Gamaliel.

This is probably only because I have them and not much else to field at the moment (my first army is still small) as well as I'm a pretty new player, so I don't have the experience to know what is worth the point cost yet.

That being said, Gamaliel is named because he has single-handedly won me several games. He destroyed 3 Necron squads alone after breaking the first with the help of the rest of the assault squad (who quickly perished afterwards to a torrent of Necron firepower). He's a killer unit and I keep bringing him because I've had great luck with him. He's also the only HQ I have painted currently.... So season this post with some salt, if you know what I mean.

See my IC is the exact opposite. I named him Nemiel after the character from the books. He is the biggest fail ever. Here's an example: a squad of 15 guardsmen, easy pickings right? Nope. Nemiel is killed by the last three members of the squad he survived the assault. Yep, he failed all three of his saves...because I had him and the squad shoot, but only had Nemiel assault. Fave palm. But this recurring

Hehe that sucks. Sounds like just bad luck: can't fight that! I'd give him another shot though - Gamaliel and his Assault Marine squad made it across the board (a feat in itself against guard...) and ran through 2 Guard squads, an IC, and part of a 3rd before falling in a recent game. Also won me that game.

That all being said, they have also catastrophically failed. Never ever assault a squad of lightning claw terminators. Ever. (My first game vs that unit... lessons learned to say the least.)
