Venerable Jazzman
Hola, Right, this is what I've got until the end of March to convert, fill gaps, and paint up. Place your bets on whether I make it or not. From left to right, we have - Sarge, getting twin claws; Bent sword guy; Thunder hammer guy; Plasma guy; and Meat Shield guy All of the beakies in my army are either Sergeants or squad leaders, which means I'll need to convert this one to have a better weapons loadout - I can't see me using these guys very often, so I'm not unduly worried about the points cost for them. Sarge has quite a lot of bubbles needing filled, which seems to be typical for Finecast, unfortunately. I'm also not massively impressed by the quality of the recessed detail - this is the jump-pack vents compared to the plastic, as you can see it's pretty crap. First thing to do was cut off the chainsword hand and stick it in the bits box. I'm going to use some spare SW termi claws, cos they're the only ones I've got lying around. I'll cut the wolf skulls of the backs and replace them with something more Blood Angely. Power cables will either be guitar string or greenstuff. Once I cut the claw arm down, it was simply a case of drilling out a hole in the claw to fit the arm stub - luckily I've got a drill bit about the right size, and then I just wiggled it around to expand the hole And thus endeth the first update - Sarge has two new arms and a jump-pack held on with blutack, but you get the general idea of what he'll look like. thedarklordobsidian
Brilliant work, I really like the stuff you've done on the sergeant so far, Lightning Claws on that model is an inspired idea! Kierdale
Looking very good so far! Those claws really suit him. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245166-jazzmans-lpc-progress/#findComment-2965394 Share on other sites

Venerable Jazzman
As promised, the second update - astute readers will spot the lack of paint so far... :D I've basecoated these and got a first layer of Blood Red on them last night, but I wanted to get some pics done in the daylight. Thunder Hammer guy - as BA can't take relic blades, having a mahoosive sword was a bit redundant, but I figured I could change that to a thunder hammer instead. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC202.jpg I used the same wrist/socket technique as the lightning claws above. The arm is a SW Termi hammer - the left hand fits exactly in to the gap when you remove the piece of handle, and I swapped the hammer head for a BA one from the DC box. Power cables are guitar string with bands of masking tape wrapped round. I've gone over it with a wash of liquid GS to smooth out the lumpy bits since I took this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC201.jpg Sarge, with claws http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC205.jpg One of the things I wanted to try on this build was using liquid GS for casting - I'd heard it was too brittle to make moulds, but I wondered if I could paint it into a mould. I used plasticene to make a simple press of a skull (metal Chaos shoulder pad, for those interested), thin layer of oil, then just built up the liqGS in about three layers. Looks ok, although I wouldn't try it on anything with fine detail you want picked up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC204.jpg I found a better left claw, so cut off the shoulder pad and Dremel'd it out to fit - it's a bit rough round the back, but the jump pack covers up the problem. Meat shield guy, now power weapon guy The chainsword was too bendy to be used, so I drilled out his hand and added an oldskool power axe instead. I've tidied the join up since I took these pics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC203.jpg Meat shield guys Straight builds - I added the chainsword I chopped off the sarge to the guy on the right, as it was a better casting than the existing sword. The big bubble on the right jumppack will be painted as battle damage - looks like a melta blast to me. And the pouch on the leg covers another finecast detail fail. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC206.jpg Painting updates all this week. Grotsmasha
I really like the poses and load-outs you have there. I suggest you contact GW customer Service and ask for replacements, I can see a bunch of very nasty miscasts. You'll prob not get new ones quick enough for the LPC though. SickSix
I really like what you have done with these guys. I am now also extremely grateful that I got my Vanguard guys in METAL! Venerable Jazzman
Look, paint! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/LPC301.jpg Two coats of Blood Red over Halfords Red Oxide plastic primer. Helmets are Golden Yellow over Dheneb Stone, still just one coat so far. Anything else that looks like grey plastic has had some Dheneb blobbed on to it, probably so I can see the detail. 3 nights left to go Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245166-jazzmans-lpc-progress/#findComment-3025500 Share on other sites
DarkMark
You've done a great job, BUT you do us all a great disservice by not returning those casts. Looking forward to them being painted regardless :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245166-jazzmans-lpc-progress/#findComment-3025606 Share on other sites
