Ultramarines Army UPDATED 11/23/14

Recommended Posts

Super cool site!

Hey, new to the forum here at B and C. So, to make a short story long, I've been dabbling in 40k models since 2000 or so. Painted a lot of fantasy stuff over the past 7 or 8 years. Gave up metallic paints in 2004 or so. Started a BL Chaos army 2001(sold it), purchased a small BT army in 2001 (in storage), started SW army in 2002 (sold it), started a BA army in 2004 (gifted it to a friend)... Purchased and painted the entire 3rd Edition Space Hulk boxed set (bugs too!) in 2009 (sold it on e-bay). Then I started reading a lot of 40k stuff, Horus Heresy series. James Swallow, Graham McNeil, etc. Really got hooked on the Ultramarines story line. So I started slowly building an army, then started my five year paint project last year by painting the entire AOBR (orks not included) and that set me off.

I will try and post these models here for you to see. I am painting them mostly with 2nd Co. color schemes... I use NMM techinques and try to freehand most of my chapter symbols.

Enjoy

Okay, I'll kick it off with a Dreadnoughts. I painted these two ancient ones in late 2010 to kick off my project Ultramarine project.

BLESS THE MIND TOO SMALL FOR DOUBT!

That Chaplain is really bugging me, in a good way. The black seems particularly vibrant, but no matter how closely I look at it I can't determine any highlights or any real shading going on. Is this a trick of the eyes? Extremely high light source in the photography? Foul witch craft (you Ultras do include the warp-touched in your ranks, so I have to ask)?

Aside from that, a very interesting and unique style you've developed there, and it seems to be working well for you. Keep up the good work.

Your army is looking aces all round, but this face screams Mission Impossible mask.

Cheers,

Jono

It's the Alpha Legion! :cuss

Aye, Brothers the Sgt's face is a bit washed out... it is partly my old camera's fault, but I agree that he looks warp tainted! The Chappy's armor is also off due to my poor camera skills... The black armor highlights are there, just can't see very well.

THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT FEEDBACK AND POSITIVE COMMENTS.

I'LL BE POSTING MORE SOON.

Okay just found this picture, this is the Capt. from the AOBR boxed set... That's the last of the 2010- early 2011 models...

I only paint during the winter months. Basically, October thru April of each year.

Okay, here's another model I completed in late 2011. Forgeworld's LE Boarding Marine from the 2011 Games day in Chicago. The resin base I picked up from a small company in Italy. Of course, I painted him in full Ultramarine colors... :P
