Hexagon Sun
Thanks Uhr! Small update just to show that there is some progress. Got these guys primed, black lined and i've done the black for metallic areas etc. I'm trying the Bevulf "forest of paperclips" method of painting the arms. It's working out well so far I must say! You can also see what's next on my painting table sitting in the background there... <_< http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/combat_2_green.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245199-lpc-2012-stopping-my-procrastination/page/3/#findComment-2998794 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
There should be an award for basing/posing! And the veterans are coming in for support! :) I think this thread will maintain its appeal long after the LPC is over! Excellent stuff Hex! Amazing green too! <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245199-lpc-2012-stopping-my-procrastination/page/3/#findComment-2998799 Share on other sites

Hexagon Sun
Hi, i'm not far off finished now. I just to need to do some final highlights on the green, add company markings and transfers then tidy up a few bits. So overall i'm at 90% i'd say! http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/combat_2_all.jpg http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/combat_2_close.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245199-lpc-2012-stopping-my-procrastination/page/3/#findComment-3003725 Share on other sites
Grand Master Belial
Loving the dark green on these marines! Can't wait to see more! Cactus
Great work. I especially like sergeant Nuriel's name plate. I never liked those shoulder pads before now but painting that panel as wood rather than metal makes all the difference. Hexagon Sun
I'm (kind of) happy to say my vow is now complete. I had a complete nightmare when varnishing them and they frosted badly in some parts, mainly the shoulders/head and backpack. So after reading up on it I put gloss varnish on them which didn't really help at all if i'm honest. So I had to repaint some parts here and there but for some reason it's not at all how it was previously so i'm one unhappy camper. I then varnished again over the gloss and i think it's ok but they all look a lot lighter due to the slight frosting so when i put them side by side with the previous 5 they just look slightly off. Anyway, that aside i'm still finished my vow which is something to be pleased about. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and in particular Captain Semper for his sterling effort in tracking everyone's progress, it really helped push me to get them finished! http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/combat_2_final.jpg http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/combat_2_final_close_1.jpg http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/combat_2_final_close_2.jpg And the whole gang together. http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/Dark%20Angels/Tacticals/tactical_1_final.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245199-lpc-2012-stopping-my-procrastination/page/3/#findComment-3006601 Share on other sites
Interrogator Stobz
Fantasic work HS, and congrats on completing your vow!!!! I like the way you got the company markings onto the shins that don't have kneepads, very smooth colours and blending all 'round too. Do you have an army pic? s Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245199-lpc-2012-stopping-my-procrastination/page/3/#findComment-3006653 Share on other sites
elmo
Another vow complete and in style - great work. Cactus
The squad looks great Hex. I feel your pain with the frosting. After having to patch up my fire dragons and tyranid prime after similar incidents I switched to brushing on my varnish from a pot. It takes a little longer but can be done at any time, in any weather, without leaving the painting table. Captain Semper
Hey Hex! Congratulations on completing your vow! I'm sorry to hear of the troubles you had with the varnish - suffice to say nothing of that shows on the pics! The knee markings rock! As Stobz said, if you got a group photo of your army do post - judging from this squad they must look awesome! Hexagon Sun
Thanks all, they're officially the first completed squad of my new army. Since the varnish disaster i've took your advice Cactus and got some brush on varnish, sounds much better all round! Especially the bit about never leaving in painting table since it's never fun going outside in the rain/cold. As for my old army... let's just say it's a bit of a shambles. I never really finished any of it and it was always in a state of WIP with basecoats/primer/plastic/metal all featuring heavily! I did however dig out a couple of non DA mini's I had kicking about. Looking at them now it's amusing, I think i have a lot more patience these days and it shows massively! So my plan going forward is to actually fully paint an army before I even attempt to play a game again. Though my pile of unpainted plastic is growing yet again, I've just caved in and bought a predator... also you might of noticed the sergeants power first is from the devastator sprue... ahem. Khârn - I remember being extremely chuffed with this at the time. Still stands up well despite the awful base! I may rebase him at some point just so he looks a bit better. http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/kharn.jpg http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/kharn_back.jpg Really old Inquisitor - As you can see he's not really finished and I never got around to doing the base either. http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/inquisitor.jpg Reason for edit: mucked up the photo links! Isiah
I have to say Hexagon Sun that this squad looks pure awesome sauce. There's something about your [DA] green that just looks amazing. You gotta maintain this level of excellence and get more DA stuff painted. Cheers I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245199-lpc-2012-stopping-my-procrastination/page/3/#findComment-3007177 Share on other sites
Hexagon Sun
Thanks Isiah, I'm just looking at my growing pile of plastic and wondering what to start on next. Though I do have 5 scouts started and 5 vets undercoated...
