What's your painting jams?

I know I'm not the only one who likes playing music while they paint. What's your tunes of choice while you paint your minis? What makes for good painting jams?

I've been listening quite a bit to Ronald Jenkees. If you don't know him his songs are pretty friggin' awesome. Really great background music.

One of my favorites

I like classical music played on the piano, and one of my favorite modeling/painting playlists is exactly this. I find that any dance genre is also very good for engaging in hobby activities for a long time, as they encourage continuous movement. Also my secret shame bold love of musicals gets that playlist a lot of airtime in the hobby room.

I listen to Black Library Audio Books most of the time ... or indulge in a mixture of classical music / gregorian chant.

However when I am trying to get a project finished to a deadline ... The Prodigy .. Fat of the Land.

Various forms of rock and metal, usually.

At the moment, I'm listening to Within Temptation on Youtube, but it's mostly been Motörhead and Nightwish lately. Other bands I frequently listen to include Metallica, Rammstein and Queen.

I also like to listen to the Star Wars soundtracks.

Depending on the time I plan to spend painting I may go with something orchestral, with more emphasis on woodwinds. Or I open up one of the various 40k related podcasts I follow. If neither of these 2 I will turn on an internet radio station and listen to video game music scores, or techno/electronica/etc music.
The last few months I've been listening to various 40K podcasts or BL audio books/dramas while painting - Pure 40K heaven!

I've found more and more these days, I prefer podcasts and audiobooks too - for some reason the music I love distracts me too much. It might be me singing along that's doing it... ^_^

Anything with a good beat! However that said i do like various types of music. Im a clubber at heart but i do like rock and indie rock (xfm all the way) but usually when i paint ive either got muse on or bit of clubbin music tiesto, paul van dyke, deadmaus ect...

Mainly sound tracks from games. The Dawn of War 2 music, and the World of Warcraft soundtracks are surprisingly good. And Del Amitri remains a favorite. Woo!

Did listen to Dead in the Water a few weeks back, and that was very good. Kept me doing rather dull basecoating for an hour.

Usually something I know, and know well, so I'm not consciously noticing "hey, I like this music" and can focus on the painting. Lately, it's been stuff from Karate or the Afghan Whigs, because I apparently exist in 1998 forever. Also used to put on comedy specials from Netflix until I accidentally ruined a model while laughing myself silly. Don't repeat my mistakes!
I have listened to several different things while painting...usually I listen to the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack (the original, not the new one). I recently got into Heavy Metal Dubstep, although I haven't decided if I like it enough to explore more thoroughly. I also like listening to Epica, the type of epic music you sometimes hear on movie trailers for super exciting action type movies.

Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer, Fresh Beat Band, Blue's Clues, cries of "Daaaadddddd..." ....

Oh, you mean what I would chose to listen to if I had control of all the electronic devices as opposed to using them to purchase peace and quiet enough that I might be able to paint a mini  Seriously, the only painting I did last year was the LPC Painting competition bit of Termies.. I'm hoping to top that this year <_<

I'm an instrumentalist (been playing the violin for 21 years now) so I tend to go for soundtracks or instrumental music. Star Wars, soundtracks from Anime (Noir mostly at the moment), Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Holst... a couple wierd things like Symphonic Pink Floyd, Symphonic Led Zepplin, Symphonic Queen. Some of my father-in-law's stuff (Rottweiller) or some stuff my brother-in-law has done. Bits of this and that and whatever :P

I find stuff like Burial, Pariah, Four Tet, Kode9, Gorillaz, Radiohead/Thom Yorke, Bloc Party and some real good hip hop like Jedi Mind Tricks, old school eminem, Madvillain, Akala, Wu Tang is the most productive music for me to listen to, but every so often, I give in and play some glorious thrash metal. Epic metal, NWBHM and stuff like Manowar can really inspire me sometimes however.

Nothing quite beats light progressive jazz, Chilled two-step/garage/(proper)dubstep, a good variety of blues, or classical compositions.

Recently though, I've been listening to a lot of 70s stuff, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Elton John, The Doobie brothers, Wings, Toto, T-Rex and stuff.

I highly suggest any 40K audio books you might own. Nothing gets me amped for painting for a long period like an audio book does. Something about hearing your chapter kicking some butt makes painting a lot more interesting.

Outside of that, I listen to metal usually. Some of my favorites are Dream Theater (Prog Metal) Amon Amarth (Melodic Death Metal) Insomnium (Melodic Death Metal) Killswitch Engage (Metalcore) Tool (Prog Metal) and then some Symph metal bands like Nightwish, Kamelot and After Forever. I also really like Coheed and Cambria as their songs are hard enough but keep far more to a melodic and story telling structure.

Recently, when I work/paint, I've been listening to Pink Floyd, most specifically

from their Dark Side of the Moon album. But I listen to a lot of stuff so it varies. I may sometimes listen to some good ol' Infected Mushroom or some Mark Knopfler from time to time. Depends on my mood really.
