What's your painting jams?

I usually listening the classical station and hope they have something i can paint maybe Bach or Liszt - Les Preludes- Sci-Fi miniatures because it was also used as a soundtrak for the orginal Flash Gordon with Buster Crabbe-the 30's and soundtrak The Dark Crystal.

I prefer tunes with no vocals when working on projects. It's less distracting that way. Mostly, i listen to video game or anime soundtracks. The .hack//G.U and Final Fantasy OSTs work especially well.

If not, stuff like Skalmold and Amon Amarth also gets me going.

Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer, Fresh Beat Band, Blue's Clues, cries of "Daaaadddddd..." ....

This x1000 ;)

On the occasion that I'm the last person awake in the household I do get to put on headphones and rock out to something.

Last time It was to some brostep

I'm also in this boat... but for me it's Tenpole Tudor (

). :-) At the moment, anyway. Sometimes I like stranger things.
I actually watch bad movies on netflix. I've got to take a break every 10-15 minutes so I don't develop a terrible head ache or start getting shakey hands. The trick is to find something not good enough that you'll be mesmerized, not funny enough to make twitch or chuckle and not scary enough to startle you, while still being interesting enough that you'll watch it intermittently. For me that actually a fairly large class of movies.

I usually find that whatever I'm painting picks the type of genre I listen too while painting.

When I'm alone in the house and painting my Chaos minions, you can bet that I have

on full blast (I'm a black-metaller at heart with guilty electronic pleasures)

Last night while painting some Grey Knights though, I had Mortiis.

The list goes from stuff like that to Daft Punk (I seriously love the Tron: Legacy soundtrack they made), Deadmau5, KMFDM, Rob Zombie, Combichrist, Grendel, Aesthetic Perfection. Oh, and all the work that Trent Reznor of NIN did with the remake of

I'll have to try listening to some 40k audio books sometime.

The ones I've listened to are good, but I personally find it a bit difficult listening to the story and painting at the same time. I much prefer just concentrating on listening, immersing myself into the story :tu:

Ludovic

i usually have a tv show on in the background. archer is a particular favorite of mine, or the big bang theory. if we're strictly sticking to music, i'd have to say either all breaking benjamin or bb pandora station. some nice modern rock (three days grace, staind and the like)

Having just acquired his first five albums for £10 it's currently Charles Mingus, though that's only good for when you can dedicate some time to painting; there's nothing worse than having to stop halfway through Haitian Fight Song! . For short paint sessions i usually whack on a hardcore mix. Nothing like trying to make your marines look angry or sinister with a bit of Comeback Kid thundering away. For really fine detail work I'll usually put on something chilled, anything from Laura Marling to slow blues.

So basically the answer seems to be anything in my music collection depending on what the task is :D

I know I'm not the only one who likes playing music while they paint. What's your tunes of choice while you paint your minis? What makes for good painting jams?

I've been listening quite a bit to Ronald Jenkees. If you don't know him his songs are pretty friggin' awesome. Really great background music.

One of my favorites

YES! JENKEES IS FREAKIN AWESOME! You're the first person I've ever heard mention him.

Also Glitch Mob, Polish Ambassador, Subfocus, Tycho, Portishead, DJ Shadow and Thievery Corp help me to concentrate and not get bored. All of them have the tendency to cause me to put down the models and dance, which is great, because I could switch between dancing and painting models forever if only I didn't have to eat and sleep.

Non-music alternatives include the Nerdist Podcast, Science Friday from NPR or some ol' fashioned 40k radio.

That's because if he were any more underground hipster Digletts would be listening to him.

Haha, j/k. Yeah, that man makes great tunes.

I pretty much listen to anything...I try and listen to songs without words (or a minimum of them) or I usually end up getting distracted, so stuff like the Deus Ex Human Revolution soundtrack (Icarus is fantastic especially), Daft Punk, chiptune music (Bit Shifter, Trash80, Anamanaguchi and Sabrepulse) or anything by Lindsey Stirling.

Usually I end up ignoring my own rule and listening to anything by Miracle of Sound (you'll thank me later), Rammstein, Dropkick Murphys, Three Days Grace, AFI or a lot of punk mostly taken from the soundtrack of the Tony Hawk's games.

I'm not into the metal/rock type stuff, being more of a pop boy if I'm honest...

However, when I'm painting stuff I prefer film scores and that kind of thing. Star Wars, LOTR, Star Trek (the new one) has a good sound track. If I want something more melancholy, the Bioshock sound track is amazing. I also like the War of the Worlds musical (which always makes me want to start a necron army for some reason, though I think it works with Chaos too).

I enjoy instrumentals / chants (Apocalyptica...to...Gregorian Chants) as a soothing background for work on Templars, Inq, Sisters troops...I move more to the heavy stuff like Bolt Thrower 'Contact..wait..out' for the call to paint heretics, xenos, or witches.
