iandanger
So, I've been sitting on 2 armies and change worth of models for the better part of 5 years, and I finally want to get everything table ready (a grand choice since 5th edition is winding down and I'll have to rejigger everything come 6th but oh well) so I'll be blogging the process of bringing my 3 armies to fruition here. What I currently have is an almost complete Dark Angels Deathwing (just need to do some more assembly, and fair bit more painting), a mostly nurgle CSM army, and the start of a plain jane space marine army. The idea for this force is that each book represents a different facet of the army. This is a warband largely consisting of members of the Death Guard who are following a traitor marine sorcerer. He also has the allegiance of a group of Fallen Dark Angels who follow his army. While some of the fallen are corrupted, most do not follow the dark gods. The Dark Angels Deathwing is probably closest to being fielded (I have ~20 terminators completely painted, the rest are almost completely assembled or completely assembled). I have a pair of attack bikes and land speeders, 6 bikes as well as some dreads that can go with this force. The CSM are not far behind, and I will probably get them on the table soonest. The Space Marines I haven't put as much thought into. I assembled a large number of these models already, and I am making extensive use of magnets to keep this army's options open (I am not getting screwed when editions change!). I also built a lightbox last night, so these are my first pics in the new setup! Without further adieu: These models I built out of spare parts a few years ago, I will be replacing them during this build process, but this is a lord with LC and Wings and Mark of Khorne, and a Nurgle Sorcerer. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7142/6693906043_b65d977b25.jpg Delethor, champion of Nurgle, Death Guard 3rd grand company: I started working on this guy's paint job already, ignore what is here it is nowhere near final :) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6693903543_b618b1b523.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6693903783_946874a5f8.jpg He can also be equipped with a personal icon: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7011/6693904411_45dc140484.jpg And he can run without the PF: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7004/6693904665_4c6384d359.jpg Verethor, Guardian of the holy mantra of father Nurgle http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7166/6693901531_618a009b0c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7164/6693901755_5756b8f6e2.jpg The Butcher of Istaavan IV http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7012/6693901971_0708d9ca9c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7156/6693902275_e391c20279.jpg Drogen, Prophet of the Allfather http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7159/6693902541_0bae5a38f8.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7028/6693902803_da2d2bf645.jpg Belafestus, Plague Monk and Reader of the Word http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7142/6693903057_1e75049167.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7143/6693903327_603c079021.jpg This is my first 5 man squad, I am building them as 5 man squads currently but they will be painted and magnetized so that I can reorganize them if running bigger squads makes sense in different situations. I will be photographing what is already built over the next week or so, and finishing off building my marines over the next few months, I am waiting for warm weather (in MD) to prime my models. And finally a teaser of what came in the mail this week: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6693908395_37f83c41da.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245272-nurgle-warband-army-blog-updated-6-7/ Share on other sites

iandanger
I have managed to photograph a bit more of the army: These are the first 5 of a ten man squad of raptors (they double as berzerkers by switching out their jet packs). The champion with lightning claws is going to get magnetized so he can be a zerker hq, he also is (I think) the model that will serve as my Khorne Lord with Lightning claws. In the fluff he was the champion of a world eaters war band that engaged my sorcerer, who unleashed a plague that decayed much of what was left of their insane minds, making them pliable to direct psychic control. He made them his personal guard and their champion has become and unstable beast, mutating out of control as a result of the disease: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7017/6698121849_ec6ab4e188.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/6698122245_12bd538052.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7027/6698122651_03ef0064b1.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7169/6698123207_9e0d95c3c2.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7032/6698123599_9023ba508c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7002/6698124023_81f8ae66ea.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7153/6698124481_9f10330e62.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7162/6698124963_d176b9d2c4.jpg The next 5 berzerkers will have the option of equipping these and going as raptors: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7013/6698125469_25f7c6fce5.jpg These heads are a new toy http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7003/6698125915_0e4d8be462.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245272-nurgle-warband-army-blog-updated-6-7/#findComment-2968200 Share on other sites

iandanger
Argh, I had a whole post written up and lost it! I'm attempting a rewrite now: So part of the plan with my marines is to have a somewhat narrative army, one that changes over time. I want to reintroduce some of the concepts I found in the Realms of Chaos books I read when I was a kid (what originally got me into the hobby, my stepdad had them). I want to have squads who are wiped out potentially dead, victories in battle or in combat rewarding my champion with greater skills and eventually daemonhood, the potential to turn into a chaos spawn for champions and HQ's, that sort of thing. It'll get me playing the game again (which I'd sorely like to do) and its more the role playing aspect of gaming that I like. The current book does a poor job of representing this level of detail, but I can always try! Plus of models die its an excuse to create new ones. I don't plan on fielding (or naming) my dreads until I lose a few models in battle to bring back. I'm also not running my daemon prince until my sorcerer earns enough renown to ascend. I would like to eventually make a Mortarion DP, since my Daemons list has 3 Nurgle Daemon Princes and I'd rather not have any duplicate models amongst them. I'm including a shot of my Great Unclean One below, who I've never run in a CSM list but would love to try. Jaregeth, Meltagun Bearer http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7009/6698128721_c6c34e1564.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7159/6698129157_60e945768a.jpg Vilebreath, champion of Nurgle http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7001/6698129559_e78c200eb4.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7145/6698130017_c8184765e0.jpg Estazik, The Silent http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7172/6698130459_8a620dfd22.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6698131033_0105825fc9.jpg Ceres, Speaker of the Word http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/6698131497_7996cc06c4.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7157/6698132303_d41ff530a3.jpg Yorhim, The Dread Blade, Melta Gunner http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7144/6698132727_9ff56e9580.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/6698133113_888c90b7e8.jpg Theravule, Skullsmith http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7032/6698133565_75239054fd.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6698134579_4c96623b2a.jpg I am also building models for 6 5 man CSM squads with melta/combimelta, in case i need to fill in cheap troop squads. They also have the option of being equipped as enhanced CSM, I have some marines in those squads with robes on and cypher's backpack, those models will have the icon for their squad, equipped as enhanced csm with icon of Khorne. I just put together the HQ as well, I made a scythe out of plasticard and gave him the tech marine harness that fabius bile uses. I also just put together a Kharne model i got on ebay that I may try out in a few games, probably with the enhanced marines list. The combi melta parts I will be adding to the champion blotters: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7173/6698126335_81acdd34fe.jpg I also recently ordered 20 meltaguns from games workshop. Here is another of the models I got around to photographing, my Great Unclean one (I am going to pick a name for him out of the Realm of Chaos daemon name generator. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7031/6693905503_e8b392dc41.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7009/6693905815_d4c7f63c89.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245272-nurgle-warband-army-blog-updated-6-7/#findComment-2968856 Share on other sites
iandanger
Back with more pictures (I will be photographing more tonight and hopefully doing some green stuff this weekend) BTW I realized I posted 6 marines in the last batch, Theravule, Skullsmith is part of this squad :( Kaldreth the bleeding heart (I am planning on sculpting the sunken chest area into an exposed heart bleeding down his armor) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7169/6698134981_d913e5673b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7155/6698135391_e3d9977d57.jpg Without PF http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7158/6698135819_b1256ab799.jpg Darasmus, ringer of the bell http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7154/6698136255_5f356db9f2.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6698136863_52515618e6.jpg Parestius, melta gunner (I have since attached his fire arm) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7029/6698137201_063d6c2302.jpg Mervala, bearer of Karval, tooth of pestilence (counts as ccw, but if i play so:killzone with this model I'm going to make his ccw something special) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6698138017_2c620f66fa.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6698138399_32d495cc79.jpg Plus, bonus, DREADNOUGHTS! These are in various stages of painting and need some love: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6693907985_670dda93ed.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6693908191_5a7533d676.jpg I think I am going to add chanswords to this guy's right arm as well: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6693907519_d07a1131ec.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7022/6693907227_2d68daf178.jpg I really love this model, he is my death guard dread, only a plague marine can enter that sarcophagus (and boy, is he into taking trophies, there are supposed to be 2 more heads greenstuffed to the hook on the back but they fell off and need to be reattached) The body is painted with my plague marine color scheme, which is whitewashed green with patches of flesh (And a currently painted fly icon on the left leg) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7151/6693906769_385eb3385c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7022/6693907227_2d68daf178.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6693907009_ee8f10c991.jpg Lastly, the daemon prince that my sorcerer may someday become (of course he may become one of the spawn in my bits box) I have a pair of wings from the plastic daemon prince box that I am currently magnetizing to his back, it has been something of a struggle thus far. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6693906281_31227070ab.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7158/6693906567_9ccd84b24e.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245272-nurgle-warband-army-blog-updated-6-7/#findComment-2973180 Share on other sites
iandanger
Wow, long time no post! I have made a great deal of progress, but I'm still missing a name for the warband. These were shot in the light box with a new background I found via Rust in the City. I've completed and started painting the HQ and a squad of PM's (3 pictured here). The plan is to touch up the trim and handle the metallics/details next. I'm also planning to hit the white areas with a bit more watered down white so the stripes aren't as prominent: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8142/7164760389_e9b62e0c90.jpg DSCF1026 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7221/7164761025_f7ef5f2b34.jpg DSCF1027 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7238/7164758455_5b835d7e53.jpg DSCF1023 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8024/7164759587_8d9df13edd.jpg DSCF1025 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr Now for the other squads I have finished, I have 6 5 man squads now, and will eventually get around to adding 12 more, once I have the cash for the FW Death Guard kit that is <_< Names, left to right, Varis Doen, Vothan Shuga, and Taran Herestus http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/7164738149_51210f1527.jpg DSCF1004 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7245/7164739939_5eba180143.jpg DSCF1005 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr And this squad's Champion plus another member, L-R Morbilius Rathos and Dogen Plagueface (some sanding/gs work needed here, both to deal with some thumb printing and to make Morbilius' face more plaguey) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7232/7164744581_e684fa2c9e.jpg DSCF1012 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7098/7349958052_40a6bc31ac.jpg DSCF1013 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr The next squad is as follows: Top: Khal Vrat, Lothis Garant Bottom: Recis the Afflicted, Bagan Runsfellow, and Volthor Callenhem http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7233/7349951936_d4911ef1b1.jpg DSCF1006 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7236/7164742485_f2bd3f9686.jpg DSCF1010 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr I also am working on (he's still heavily work in progress) Mortarion, my 2nd Daemon prince. The first one is, I think, the previous Lord of this warband. He ascended, killing half their men in the process, and the sorcerer asserted control in the power vacuum. I have a lot more back story figured out for them, but that will be dealt with elsewhere. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8018/7164777525_40b2e0e14d.jpg DSCF1048 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr I also put together a chaplain, because the CSM for my army are sometimes run with my Fallen Dark Angels (more about that in the fluff later). I will be doing a corrupted librarian as well eventually. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7226/7349986068_e321c570d0.jpg DSCF1046 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8158/7349987796_75d860afd2.jpg DSCF1047 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr And I am putting together a Typhus model from a busted old termie lord at the bottom of my bits box. If the rumors that say Typhus is needed to unlock scoring PM's in the new dex are true, I want to be prepared! I am further along than this, but this is where I started basically: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7312912108_29bed6bfb8.jpg Untitled by ianlogsdon, on Flickr Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245272-nurgle-warband-army-blog-updated-6-7/#findComment-3080437 Share on other sites
iandanger
BB Version Got another batch of photos. I need to hit the background picture with a bit of matte paint to make it less reflective. This is the Sergeant of my 1st CSM Squad, a chaos lord model I found in a bin at my local game shop. I really loved his pose, and his Combi Melta looks really unique. I like the idea of my sergeants being fairly impressive, so using a Lord body is a great start: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7076/7164750733_29cdf1c2e1.jpg DSCF1016 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7085/7164751515_e58264ba2d.jpg DSCF1017 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr This is his squad, the Melta was a conversion using a bolter and a combi melta sprue from a vehicle. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7236/7164748151_7c3fe1cdaf.jpg DSCF1015 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr Here's Squad 2's sergeant (I will be coming up with names for these gents once they are painted) and he has the option of either a CCW or a power fist, his Combi Melta was made by cutting the clip off the bottom, as well as the grip, and adding a combi-melta part I got from Chapterhouse. I used several of these for my sergeants. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7216/7164754053_9b8f68a775.jpg DSCF1019 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7084/7164756189_87741c4f5b.jpg DSCF1020 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr His squad, mostly AoBR marines http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7082/7349969096_51316b24b6.jpg DSCF1022 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr Another Champion http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8147/7164761623_3ee3dc9b84.jpg DSCF1028 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8019/7164762219_b3e80993e8.jpg DSCF1029 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr His Squad http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8162/7164763543_95a0de0e74.jpg DSCF1031 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr I feel as though I should re-mention that this warband is a group of renegades, primarily ex-Death Guard legionaires, and secondarily Fallen Dark Angels... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7216/7164765873_d7f50455bf.jpg DSCF1035 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7164765291_6ed41382b7.jpg DSCF1034 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7226/7349975156_1854b890ab.jpg DSCF1032 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr His Squad (the greenstuff on the robed guys is some of my first from back in 2007, they are the marines from the Battle for Macrage starter set!). http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7077/7164767181_63805cbc05.jpg DSCF1036 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr Next champion http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7225/7349978846_0c0926fa6e.jpg DSCF1037 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7220/7164768471_8b52dd3985.jpg DSCF1038 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr His Squad http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7226/7349981832_8e98e75a9e.jpg DSCF1040 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr And the final champion, with his oversized combi-melta http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7074/7164772073_330618f301.jpg DSCF1042 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7218/7349983626_c6f81c4de6.jpg DSCF1043 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr And this is his squad http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7242/7349985442_111b8d5fb4.jpg DSCF1045 by ianlogsdon, on Flickr And thats my 30 CSM! I have basicaly everything in need assembled, I'm only really left working on priming and painting. My summer class did just start, so I want to get them primed ASAP before I get bogged down. I'd like to get everything table painted by the end of july (Plague Marines and CSM, we'll see about the berzerkers) and continue working on Mortarion.
