helpermonkey504
I bought a Deathwatch squad on ebay and i want to use them as actual deathwatch instead of count-as veterans. The only rules i have for them is a chapter approved article from 2003. Has anyone posted updated rules for them anywhere, or will i have to update them myself? heretic??ME??
Nah fella you are doomed. 2003 is way to old now. Sternguard is the closest you will get. So just roll with it. Of course you won't be able to have an Inquisitor in the force. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245404-rules-for-deathwatch/#findComment-2968677 Share on other sites
Something Wycked
Unfortunately, Deathwatch aren't in either of the current Inquisition's codices. The closest unit to them, as heretic mentioned, is Sternguard. But if your group thinks homegrown rules are kosher, then go for it. Be sure to post it up in the Homegrown rules forum or tell us about it here  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245404-rules-for-deathwatch/#findComment-2968693 Share on other sites
Olis
I'd also recommend using them as Sternguard - the models and the rules almost fit together perfectly. I'm using a squad as my sternguard in my crusade army project - considering the army is multiple units from different chapters it might even be considered a flluffy choice on my part. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245404-rules-for-deathwatch/#findComment-2968753 Share on other sites
jeffersonian000
I've always recommended Codex: Space Marines for building a Deathwatch army. HQ - Librarian or Captain (Kill Team leader) HQ - special character (counts-as Inquisitor) Elites - Sternguard (Kill Team) Troops - Scouts (Inquistorial Storm Troopers) Vehicles and other untils to soot your needs and play style. Chengar Qordath
Also, if you're using Codex: Space Marines and going Sternguard-heavy to represent Deathwatch, then Pedro Kantor usually comes highly recommended. to make your Sternguard scoring. helpermonkey504
The problem with using them as sternguards is that i collect black templars so we don't have them. I think i'll make rules based on the 2003 ones. It shouldn't be too hard to tweak them for 5th edition Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245404-rules-for-deathwatch/#findComment-2969721 Share on other sites
Something Wycked
Black Templars also don't have Deathwatch in their codex :) It might be easier to port the Sternguard rules from C:SM to C:BT than to update decade-old rules. jeffersonian000
Or ... if you want to just use the GK codex, you could take Corteaz, maybe a Librarian, a couple of PAGK squads as counts-as DW, henchmen squads as actually Henchmen, and its all legal.
