Obsidian Legion Devestators

After about 20 minutes of frustration trying to upload these photos to my B&C galleries, I said frak it, I'm using Photobucket. Images are horrid, but hey, they're black marines with a red shoulder pad. Not exactly much to see.

As far as work done is concerned, in these images I've based the bodies black (as well as their accessories, not pictured) and built the shoulders up from Mechrite Red to a much deeper color.

Overall, the vow is to complete 3 squads of Devastators with missile launchers, 5 strong each. I'm using 10 new AoBR missile launcher marines, one Devastator boxed set, and 2 random tactical marines I'm converting to Devastator Sergeants with some miscellaneous bits. 1 additional ML Marine is constructed from the Devastator set, and I'm going to repaint 2 previously built ML Marines to the new color scheme. That gives me more than the requisite 12 ML Marines. I have yet to build the 2 additional Sergeants, but I have some ideas for backpack conversions involving vehicle bits.

Without further ado: 2012 LPC WIP Update photo set 1.

Since these were taken, after about 2 hours worth of work I have added Boltgun metal to the joints of the power armor, the Aquilas, chainsword, ML's, and loading arms. I've also started to repaint the white on the extra Marines as red, added Snakebite leather to the pouches and dagger sheathes, and covered the skull motifs in Adeptus Grey. all in all, not a bad day.

I'm all into Devastators so I'm always glad to see pictures of them. What is the final paint scheme?

The posture of the sergeant looks a little bit wonky to me. Changing the angle abit so maybe he is looking at the thing he is pointing to, or backwards to give the impression of him giving orders

I wish I had faced his head more towards his chainsword, but, it's a bit late now. Final color scheme is fairly simple. Black armor, red shoulder pads, silver highlights. Details like satchels will be brown, weapons boltmetal, grenades red. I've parted the kitbashed additional sergeants out, just have to put them together. I'll paint them in round two, along with some non-LPC stuff. I'm using the radar dish from the Razorbacks on their backpack, and ausepxes for each as well.

More WIP Pics.

And one of the marines from my tac squads I'm repainting to match. Biggest change, shoulder pad went from White (like, bright white) to red. Hence, the profile view.

Progress on my kitbashed Devastator Sergeants. Right now the arms, head, backpack, and base are bule-tac'd on. I opted for belt hung ausppexes (auspici?) as I've previously had trouble with grafting one into a hand. One sarge will be packin' the classic chainsword/boltpistol combination (as pictured) and the other will be rockin' with chainsword/frag grenade. As you can see, my greenstuff-fu is still weak, but getting better. Yes, the radar dish is pinned under the plastice tube, and the auspex is GS'd to a pin-hook through its loop.

The one guy with the white base is me trying a new flocking technique for snow. It was already complete on that model prior to the challenge. I'm moderately pleased with the results, but I think I'm going to black base edges and see how that looks.
