It's about time - My Humble Crusade WIP

So I've been into 40k for years but between life, children, and slow painting/building it's taking me forever to get a complete army. I've been lurking these forums for years and gaining much insight, inspiration, and knowledge.

Im finally posting some stuff in hopes of also gaining some more advice, encouragement, and motivation from this hallowed fraternity.

Sorry for the iPhone photos but it's my best/easiest option to get pictures up here.

This is my first time building a landspeeder and I wanted to magnetize it but didn't like where the typhoon missile launchers are usually mounted. Also I was very worried about putting this kit together since I haven't had much experience putting together vehicles and I had heard of the horror stories of how bad the kit is made, but with the help of Plastruct plastic weld the build wasn't bad at all. Figuring out how and where to best put the magnets took a bit more work. Anyway here's what I've got ...

Thanks for looking ... I'll try to keep this thread filled with, hopefully, interesting stuff lol

Looks like it went together nicely! Good work!

I hope to get my hands on one myself in a month or two.

What chapter will it belong to? You said 'crusade' so I'm guessing Templars?

When you start your landspeeder I definitely recommend some plastruct plastic weld or equivalent. My speeder feels rock solid. The only creaks come from the doors which I left hinged so you can 'work' on the engine lol

And yes you're correct I'm a Black Templar.

Here's a shot of my work area, my hobby cabinet that has nothing but models and hobby supplies in it, and some of my WIP crusade in various stages of completion.

lol Kierdale, no matter how much I try to organize it seems to turn into that mess in just a few days

I don't know if I'll be adding any more to the land speeder but I will have some script and decals after painting.

I haven't had a chance to primer the speeder due to weather and timing so here are two meltagun marines I'm working on

They look good. I like the one on the left - good conversion.

They look good nice start.

Thanks guys. Helps immensely to hear positive feedback like that.

I paint so damn slow it hurts so bear with me but I've been trying to keep trucking forward.

Having started these threads has put some motivation in me but my skills are still lacking so i have to go very slow unless I want my guys to look very sloppy.

A little cleaning up, some script work, charred barrels and finishing off the backpacks and bases and these guys should be done.

Looks ace brother! The landspeeder is one of the worst builds there is, just under the LRC metal hurricane bolters and the thunderfire cannon.

Out of the 7 I have, only 2 came together without a problem. For the other 5... metal wire...

Your black highlights are very nice!

Don't you worry about the speed, just do 'em however you like to. It's better to keep a steady crawl than to burn out, I say. :P

Thanks for the encouragement, I've definitely burned out before and this time I'd like to get this completed (in time for new Templar stuff to be released and pile up in my cabinet again lol)

Those are some good looking Templars, I can feel your pain on Land Speeders, I've got two and building them was a frustrating task to say the least!

I think with the lessons I've learned from building this one the rest should be fine. Good thing I only need 2 more.

So I currently have 1 LRC in a box ... And it happens to be the metal hurricane bolters

(−_−;)

Thanks for the compliment on the black, my problem is I'm using (or attempting to use) 1:2 cold grey:black Vallejo, and damn they WILL NOT stay mixed to a consistent dark grey.

Looking good mate, I like your use of the AoBR Sgt.

Thanks, I have 2 of them so I wanted to make them a bit different.

Here's an update of what I've finished and what I'm working on.

First I have the aobr initiate w BT chained bolter weapon swap, old metal meltagunner, plasmagun initiate, aobr sgt converted to meltagunner, and old metal powerfist initiate.

Next is my aobr captain converted to command squad meltagunner and aobr initiate w plasmagun weapon swap

Very nice conversion of the AoBR captain. Very innovative, making him a command squad melta gunner - it looks like he's a part of the sword brethren with that cloak. Kudos.

Dude! That Cpt. Convo came out friggin great! I just might have to borrow that one...

For the LRC... I will honestly recommend you to buy the LRC/LRR upgrade sprue from GW... that way you get the plastic version. It will cost you a little bit, but it will save you a LOT of time and frustrations. And you get two flamestorm cannons that are great for conversions on dreads, super flamers for land-speeders etc etc.

Keep up the great work brother!

@Olisredan, Reinhard, Brother Kovash, and Asrech

Thanks for the compliments on the conversion. You guys hit it on the money, everyone in my command squad will have some kind of cape, cloak, tabard, and they will be painted in the cream color to denote their elite status as sword brethern (according to the warhammer 40k wiki).

So far I have this meltagunner conversion and a 2nd meltagunner planned.

I still need to plan a Sgt (I'm thinking SS and PF), an apothecary, and a company champion.

For my marshal I'll be using the Master of the Watch with just a little bit of conversion (SS and counts as Lightning Claw).

As for the 4 ccw/bp sword brethern I'll be using my old metal sword brethern that were collecting dust since 5th ed.

@Asrech - thanks for the advice on buying the plastic upgrade kits, I'll probably end up doing that because I keep staring at my metal hurricaine bolters and they give me a headache just thinking about them.

@Crimson Hawk - L O L !!!!

WIP update, I have that meltagunner and the plasmagunner ... but I started to get tired of painting power armor so I started on 3 Hammernators to bring my total up to 5 ... will post pics once they have some paint on them. Also I've managed to primer (and screw up) my landspeeder ... I got a little heavy handed with the primer on the rear portion and its going to need some sanding down :(

Once again thanks for the compliments, advice, and encouragement!

  • 2 weeks later...

Has this ever happened to you ....

You get super busy with real life and all you can think about at work is getting some painting done.

Then you finally get a break and sit down and all you end up doing is staring at the B&C and your sprues?

Well I couldn't motivate myself to paint but I did end up doing some building at least.

2 more Bolter initiates made from AoBR marines and a hammernator made from bits.

I did get a bit of painting done on my command squad meltagun sword brother the other day.

Put in some work on my hammernators. Almost done.

Also spent a ton of time cleaning up parts for 2 rhino chassis tanks to be magnetized for razorback/predator duty.

My buddy for an airbrush so hopefully I can put that to good use on those tanks.
