Camdoran Crusade

Recommended Posts

Hello Brethren!

Fairly new Black Templar here. I've decided to start up a thread here that will be dedicated to my crusade. I'm not exactly new to the hobby, but have been on hiatus for a very long time and just finally gotten back to it, so I might as well just be new alltogether.

The idea was that I will post images, fluff, army lists and maybe battle reports of my crusade in this thread as time permits, though as you'll find the thread is mostly just a painting log.

The crusade currently roughly consists of 100 power armored initiates, 20 Neophytes, 30 Swordbrethren Terminators, 20 swordbrethren, 2 Sicaran Battle Tanks, 2 spartan Assault Tanks, 1 Land Raiders Achilles, 6 Contemptor Dreadnoughts, 1 Deredeo Dreadnought, 1 Leviathan Dreadnought, Some assorted HQ units, a Fire Raptor Gunship and one Glaive Super Heavy Tank.

The Fluff

The Camdoran Sector

The Camdoran sector (Camdorea) lies on the southern reaches of Segmentum Tempestus and on the very border of the Imperium of Man. Owing to its remote location, being close to the very edge of the galaxy, it is highly militarized.

Camdor - Site of the Chapter Keep erected by the original crusade, Camdor has also served as a source of recruits for the Black Templars. Much of the land mass on Camdor is lush forest, with a large majority of the planet covered by water, causing frequent tropical storms. Brutal weather breeds a hardy populous, and a distinct warrior culture creates fine fighters. Population: 750 million. The black Chapter Keep of the Templars is situated atop a mountain peak overlooking the planets only city, High Camdor.

Vectus - Hive world, population, 72 Billion, home to no less than 4 billion Guardsmen, the majority of the non-military population work the various manufactorums to provide weaponry, armour and vehicles to the Imperial Guard stationed here. As well as producing most the various goods required by any sector. An Imperial Fleet battlegroup is stationed here on permanent basis.

Egreria - Agri-world that feeds the sector, entire population works on producing food. Population, 925,000

Tulkew - Forge world, provides the Black Templar with their specialist weapons of war, and home to the titan legions "Fury of Mankind" and "Shield of Camderea". As expected, the population primarily works in the manufactorums under the ever-watchful eyes of the Mechanicus. Population: 6.5 billion

The Camdoran Crusade

The Camdoran crusade was formed to quell increasing ork activity that had begun to pose a threat to the Imperial manufacturing assets located within the Camdoran sector as well as neighboring sectors. Originally a relatively small crusade, it was later expanded upon and given additional assets when a Tyranid splinter fleet (Codename: Hive Fleet Fafnir) was discovered.

At its largest, the crusade was comprised of 3 fighting companies as well as the marshal’s household, commanding about 500 Black Templars.

Hail and well met, battle-brother.

I'm really excited to see yet another crudade underway, I've really enjoyed everyone's personal fluff and pict-feeds of the hobby end of their crusades, and now there's more to look forward to!

Have patience painting, fun with your fluff, and good luck rolling those dice!

Another quick little update

Venerable brother Navarre

He was actually the first one I put together, hence the rather uninspiring pose. I really really should have waited with painting these until i got better at painting but i couldn't help myself

Here's my second initiate done. Trying different things to see how they turn out, and I'm fairly pleased with it considering they are the first models i'm painting in over a decade (though good god the highlighting looks horrid up close like this). I think I could do better though, I just lack the knowledge and painting skills required.

For now it seems painting the tabards are my achilles heel. Anyone have any good tips for painting those?

Another small update. I've completed enough initiates that they can form a squad now. There's another 5 members to paint for these guys and I will probably field neophytes with them.

I've also finished the last of my contemptors, this time a relic contemptor with the classic assault cannon and powerfist combo. Not been as straightforward to name him though so he's unamed as of yet

This leaves me with five more initiates and the Emperors Champion for me to complete my LPC vow.

Cheers,
Reinhard

Rest of the squad nearing completion, save a few touchups, and the guy in the forefront doesn't have his fleshy bits painted since I'm out of the apropriate paint.

While I consider them 'done', apart from what I mentioned above, I will undoubtedly revisit them once i can do the the tabards justice better.
Next squad will be tabardless so I can concentrate on learning to get my black done right.

Reinhard

oh. my. starts. i want some contemptor dreads. now. :D very well done, and don't be so modest i think your painting is quite good, as mine lacks considerably. your finishes are crisp and the colors tie together well. what layers did you use for the tabards, may i ask?

For the tabards I basecoated alternatingly with Khemri brown or Calthan brown (couldn't quite decide what was the better choice) and then bleached bone mixed, and mixed with some skull white in some cases. Also tried shading with devlan mud. I think I tended to leave too much of the original basecoat, making the contrast to great an instead ending up covering everything with bleached bone.

I will get back to it and redo them once I aquire some more paints together with the missing flesh paint.

I already have plans for a 4th contemptor with autocannons kneeling amongst some ruins.

appreciate the recipe reinhard, i will probably put it to use! i hear washing gryphonne sephia over the bone coloured tabards creates a decent effect too so i might pick that up and try that wash over the top of my tabards/bone colored bits to see how that turns out. so have you gamed with those amazing looking dreads yet? would love to hear that they did well :)

No, not yet Alaric. I'm holding off gaming until I have at least a legal basic army painted to play with. I'm not terribly against people fielding unpainted minis, but I will try to limit it myself. This has the double benefit of putting some eagerness into my painting, as I do have quite a few marines to go through.

After that though I'm probably looking to play an apocalypse game with an IG player in the near future.

Small update: since I've increased the number of models included in my LPC to 20 initiates instead 10 as well 5 terminators, I've started on another squad of 5, shown below here together with the initate from the other squad that was missing his fleshy bits. It occurs to me now that he's been more or less completed, that it's rather strange for him to have a rebreather when it's meant to look like he's taken off his helmet as it was damaged.
