Rune Priests

One of the few marines without a helm in my army. I figured anyone blasting others with living lighting and causing crazy a$$ psychic storms he doesn't need one.

In the future I plan on making a storm lightning and ravens circling about him. I am waiting to get some of those Razor Wing Dark Eldar models for this or locate some other source. I am also considering chopping the head off the two headed eagle and replacing it with something else. Still figuring on that one. This model when done will be the center of attention of my army.

An Ultra Marine conversion. I figured what Ultra Marine really wants to be an Ultra Marine? So I invited him over to the Fang.

I priested him up with a converted Runic Weapon and hacked off a few other Ultra Marine Icons. I added a Wolf helm that had runes on it because its fitting. I plan on Green Stuffing the Ultra Marine logos off and adding a back pack. Other than that he is pretty much standard.

The Varangi WIP

The Anvil of Fenris

I am not sure I am going to modify him any because he is just so cool. I might... might cut the shaft of his hammer down and make it shorter, more of a throwing weapon. I figure in the 30k games he will be a standard Thunder Hammer Varangi.

I am starting to like these Termies for the first time since 1987. I am excited to get some of those Scribor jobs I been seeing.

Very impressive!

Funny that I also have those 2 special characters models (the inquisitor and the ultramarine) which will join my growing SM army.

Looking forward to seeing these bad boys painted.

Well, I'm pretty jazzed to announce that James and I are collaborating on his army. While he will be building, I'll be doing my best to put some color on his awesome conversions.

I want to do something different and distinct so I've been doing some mock ups on my son's wolves. These shots are exploratory in nature, not finished images, so I know that there's stuff that isn't painted on them, what I am looking into is how to make them dingy, worn, and looking as if they have been in battle.

The full image will have powders, some washes in the recesses, and eventually mud on the boots. The bases will eventually have a muddy, slushy base on them.

First off, I will be using this sacred tome as my source material.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, my photo skills have a long way to go.

This next picture is a little interesting. I wanted to test out Iyanden Sun against Space Wolves Grey, then Devlan Mud in the recesses of the shoulder pad and finally, charcoal powders. What I am most interested in is how the colors play off of one another. The Devlan Mud has been applied a little too thickly, so a final version will have a more discreet line around the shoulder pad.

Before I jump in with both feet, I will work one figure all the way up to final quality and then post that for comments.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the project!

Cheers,

Wonderful ideas and a fair warning brother wolf, I shall be stealing your TW Iron Priest idea.

Steal away brother in arms! I have many more fantastic conversions on the way and the Iron Priest is still a WIP lol!

You should check out my Rune Priest as he is coming along... Pictures coming shortly this evening.

awesome. Can we get a better look at that MKIII marine with his one leg up?

Does this work for you?

here are some of the first rounders. Blood Claws, Long Fangs and a few personalities that need some paint removed and new paint! Of course I will have them completely built for you...

And as I said... My Rune Priest WIP

I been trying my hand at wire sculpting and creating Warp Energy buzzing around this dude. I am looking to pick up some Dark Eldar Razor Wings to add to the lightning storm of energy crackling around him...

What do you think?

I'm not entirely sure that the wire is the best way to depict warp fire/lightning, at least not directly on the model itself. Perhaps you could try seperate 'models' (as in done on seperate bases) for that? Or maybe lighting effects would work better if you don't want to try that. I dunno. All I can say is I'm not feeling the wire, really. :)

I like the look and feel of them... Maybe a tab bit darker on the grey though. I really like the black and red accents you added on them. I would like some bronze and metal bitz for the weapons too. Remember I love that green flame look you have going on that model I saw earlier. All the enemies of the Emperor fear green flames!

I can't wait to see what concept you are going to come up with the transports. As it stands I have 3 Rhinos and a Land Raider. I am also waiting on a brother to complete my Army's custom resin iconograpy for the hatchs of the transports. Legio Canis Lupis aka Direwolves.

Sharp! I am looking forward to seeing this project get to the next level: Level kick the living S$%& out off all nerds on the convention circuit!

There is a special painting scheme for this dude to bring out the lightning. However you may be right about building the effects out on a separate base or perhaps magnetizing it to the model when needed. More to come...

Ok,

1. A tad darker grey. Got it. I think the new "Fenris" color is supposed to be a bit darker. Also, the recess work will be a little darker as well.

2. Some Bronze. Got it.

3. Green glowing energy. Got it.

4. Actually, I think there might be a way to do the wire. It would be tricky, but I think it's possible. Since you might have two Rune Priests, why don't you mock up another one, leave Torquemada on the stand for a bit and let me see if I can make it work. If not, then nothing lost on your primary figure.

I get tired of the typical special weapons carrying troops.

The Legio Canis Lupus has spent so much time chasing chaos in the deep reaches of space that it has turned up a collection of interesting artifacts. Among this catche is the "Torch of Russ" which is carried into battle by the mighty Wolf Veteran Girrr. This fearsome totem is an inspiration for the squad that follows it as both a rally point in the fog of combat and as a deadly weapon that is said to harness the power of stars to melt through enemy armour.

Acts as a Battle Standard and a Melta Gun.

This a quick post to help clarify the grey.

James: I'd like you to confirm that the figure on the right is too dark. It's a quick knock up of a test model I did for a potential PH Wolves project and I want to make sure that the grey we're looking for is between the lighter SWG and this grey.

I say the final product would be a little lighter than the marine on the right. I think what you have there is what I have here at home as my base gray I have been working on. I will post a picture of what I go and even mail you some...

Give me until monday to post some pics.

So, it's been awhile and painting time has been a bit squeezed. Also, I've been fiddling around with colors to try and figure out what colors are going to work.

Here are a few shots in different light (more sunlight influenced).

gallery_15184_7127_206155.jpg

gallery_15184_7127_35484.jpg

gallery_15184_7127_11232.jpg

gallery_15184_7127_104352.jpg

I've added some battle damage, done the recess work with Devlan Mud, and washed the metal bits. Seems like it goes together Ok. I did mess up the OSL on the eyes, so I'll take more time with them on the real figures, plus the Mk VI helmets are a little more annoying in that regard.

Note: The grey on this model is the new Dawnstone. It's not my favorite color to work with, but it seems to get the job done.

Anyway, C&C appreciated.

Cheers,
