shengami
So, I am a veteran but lapsed Imperial Guard player. I played marines last in 3e and recently decided to start up a Astartes chapter all my own: the Blood Dragons, a fallen Blood Angels successor chapter. Below is some Fluff for the chapter and a sample 1000pt army list. I am going to put more effort into the fluff as time goes on, so I'd love criticism of that, the list, and some valid tactics for Playing a Khorne heavy army list. Also, there is some part of me, despite hating the cheesy BA codex, that would love some commetns on playing this using that bastard of a codex. The chapter symbol is a Bloody Spear. Their armor will be black, fading to red on the right leg and arm. The right pauldron will be bright red, trimmed in green, with the symbol. The right pauldron, the sign of chaos or Khorne. I want to mix bits from regular marine sets with Chaos sets to represent that they are still shifting their appearance. FLUFF An experiment by the Ministorum to found a Blood Angels Successor chapter without the curse by combining the geneseed of Sanguinus with that of Vulcan. They hoped the steady temperate nature of the Slamander's Primarch might counteract the curse. For the first century of their existence, it seemed to work. Their fall, however, was rapid and sudden. 200 years ago, the Chapter's homeworld of Ko'Rall was beset by an ork horde, the Blood Dragons rallied to the defense. It went well for the first month, but the infestation persisted and the marines were driven back to their Fortress Monastery. The embattled marines sent for help to their parent chapter. It came too late. It began in the nights, when they gathered to pray for salvation: whispers of strength, vitality, and vengeance. Subtle insinuations of their abandonment by their cousins. Brothers began to fall to soemthing very much like the Black Rage, the Sanguinary Priests feared the Black Rage had activated as was about to destroy their chapter. Brothers defending the walls would fly into berserk rages and fling themselves into battle. In truth, a Greater Daemon of Khorne, The Reaver, was tempting them for his master. They fell. Months after the distress call, the Blood Angels arrived to relieve their cousins, but found only carnage and betrayal. Ork caracsses, mutilated and butchered, were strewn across the battlefield beneath the Fortress, their heads severed and piled in crude worship of Khorne. The Fortress was burnt out and the chapels desecrated with Chaos markings. In the great hall, the corpses of the tenth company and the chapter chaplains were found exsanguinated, and a message written over and over on the walls int their blood: "Why didn't you save us?" The Blood Dragons, fueled by fear, hatred, and the Red thirst were east prey for the Reaver. The Chapter fled to the edges of Imperial space, where it nurtures its growing hatred and resentment of the Imperium and its love of their savior, Khorne. They willingly slaughter in his name. Many of their numbers are little more than berzerk warriors let loose at the time of battle by the few remaining sane brothers and the Sanguinary Priesthood. They know they are doomed, as more fall to the berserk fury each year, but they revel in it now. More, led by their Priests of the Dark Blood, they vent their fury on an uncaring universe. Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Throne of Skulls! end of Fluff ----- Daemon Prince of Khorne CSM x5 (Asp w/PF and Combimelta, Melta, Rhino with combimelta) Zerks x 8 (SkullC w/PF, Rhino w/combimelta) Zerks x 8 (SkullC w/PF, Rhino w/combimelta) Zerks x 8 (SkullC w/PF, Rhino w/combimelta) ----- It comes out to 999 and is my idea for a 1000 point force to start this army. Love some comments and some suggestions for a solid 500 point expansion to get once I have the cash. Hm, Prince has no wings, wonder how to fit that in somehow... I feel I should put 8 in each zerk squad, but would seven be viable? Thanks for any comments Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245714-blood-dragons/ Share on other sites
shengami
Some more fluff... Daemon Prince Kaziel the Bloody Fist The Blood Dragons were not quite 300 years old when they fell and they counted not even a handful of dreadnoughts amongst their forces. The first to be created was the man who was the chapter's first Sanguinary High Priest and one of the first brothers of the chapter at all, Kaziel. While he was alive his charisma and combat ability were among the finest of the chapter and his dedication to his brothers complete. He advised the chapter master once he was elected, led the chapter's finest assault squad, and tended the brother looking for the Black Rage. He fell in his second century of life to, ironically now, the axe of a Khorne berserker. His brothers were unanimous in gifting him with the company's first dreadnought frame-furioso pattern. After that, he proved useful on the battle field still. He and the company's other dreadnoughts held the Fortress Monastery's gate yard during the Ork siege during their last days as loyalists. His thirst for combat and thirst for blood made him a great candidate for Khorne, his loyalty to his brothers and betrayal of them was cause for daemonhood. During the end all but one of them fell to Ork mobs of to the hands of their own brothers when they resisted the taint. The one who fell with his fellows was Kaziel. Kaziel fell during the siege of the Fortress Monastery holding the great gates during the last battle when an Ork mob of Burna boyz charged him. As he fell, slaughtering his slayers, he heard the bloody roar of the Reaver in his mind, the roar of triumph as the slaughter inside the walls began and the chapter fell. He reached out with his mind and pleaded for the opportunity to slaughter his enemies. He was not denied. He rose with a mighty roar, the tattered remains of his close combat weapon dangling from one side and his empty autocannon on the other. He used the barrels of his weapon to bludgeon and savage his attackers, screaming the entire time, "Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for the Throne of Skulls!." After the fall, as the chapter sped for deep space, he moved among the leadership of the chapter. There was much debate over what was to be done. In a glorious moment of betrayal, carnage, and slaughter he attacked the other leaders and slaughtered them, bathing his sarcophagus in their blood. He then moved among his brethren, slaughtering all those who would not swear allegiance to him, decimating the already reduced numbers of the chapter. Only 188 brothers survived his purge of the 300+ that left their home world, falling to him personally or those who rallied to him. For this act, and as a reward for falling in the first place, Kaziel was raised to daemonhood and leads the remnant of the chapter in their bloody work. Claudius, Priest of Dark Blood Claudius was but a newly raised neophyte during the last siege, and was in training with the chapter's Sanguinary priesthood. He was also fervently faithful and prayed longer and harder than most in those dark days. He was among the first to fall, a blinding fury at his position in the chapter, at his low rank clasped him. He had been advocating one last glorious charge to end their brief history with an inspiring event, but had been ignored. Later, as more of his brothers began to fall, succumbing to battle lust, he often charged the enemy lines with them and drank the foul bloods of the enemy. He was sanctioned and would have been executed if every man hadn't been needed on the lines. When KAziel fell, Claudius was among the first to flock to his banner of slaughter. These days Claudius is Kaziel's second in command and leads cults of the Blood Dragons in raids on imperial space. His anger and fury with the Imperium for denying him his rightful place is irrational but leads him to commit great atrocities. He is also the leader of the Cult of the Dark Blood, the degenerate Sanguinus Priests who tend their berserk brethren and preach the word of Khorne to their sane brethren. ----- These are the two characters I have envisioned so far for the chapter. A daemon prince and a Chaos Lord to lead the Blood Dragons. I have ideas for the models and equipment they carry that are pretty interesting to me. If anyoen is interested, I am developing these guys a bit more and a couple others and am willing to post it here as well. Hope these guys and my renegades meet with some nice comments. Now, I don't like the Daemon Prince models and never have. So, he's a custom job from the ground up. I was thinking of using the Scyle Anfingrimm model, but I want to try modelling a Cold one head onto him to get a more reptilian look, then hand some dreadnought bits on him to show how he came from that origin. The idea is rough right now, and ideas, comments, or critiques about modeling and other such things are welcome. The idea for Claudius is less grand and is probably a basic chaos termie lord with some touches to make him seem chaplainy/sanguiny. I am also eying the Fabius Bile model as I have always wanted to do something with it and Claudius wearing teh skin of his fallen foes strikes me as interesting. Llagos_Tyrant
Welcome to the B&C! I'll do my best to provide suggestions for the points I raise, but I want to tell you that I do like the premise for the Chapter. As for the Army List, I won't be able to help much there - but I was under the impression that Berzerkers were Elite Choices. An experiment by the Ministorum to found a Blood Angels Successor chapter without the curse by combining the geneseed of Sanguinus with that of Vulcan. They hoped the steady temperate nature of the Slamander's Primarch might counteract the curse. This, as far as I'm aware, only occurred during the Cursed Founding in M36 so you're Chapter should probably be a bit older to account for that. This also gives them a chance to develop their character a bit more before their fall to Chaos. As another point, I believe that only the Adeptus Mechanicus creates new Space Marine Chapters. The next few lines about them avoiding the Black Rage for the first century of their existence is confusing when you add in the part about them falling 200 hundred years ago and during that invasion of their home world, suffering from the Black Rage. First of all, I have to ask how old are they? and second, depending on how much time passed between their existence and avoiding the Black Rage, and the invasion of their home world, why do they still have Sanguinary Priests and not regular Chaplains? My only other point is that I don't understand why they slaughtered the 10th Company. -------- For the Dreadnought Daemon prince, I like the idea you've come up with and it provides some great opportunities for modelling. As for Claudius, I don't understand why the Blood Dragons have deranged Sanguinary Priests when it sounded like they slaughtered them all in their betrayal. -------- All that taken into account, the Blood Dragons seem to be interesting and a good group of renegade heretics (if such a thing can be said ;P) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245714-blood-dragons/#findComment-2972602 Share on other sites

shengami
As far as the idea about moving their founding back to the Cursed Founding, I think I actually like that idea. I will incorporate that into a revised version of the history. As well as the Adeptus Mechanicus fact. As to your point about the black rage, it states they fell to something much like the Black Rage, and the Sanguinary Priests thoguht it that, but it was really the blood thirst/berserk rage of Khorne. I thought that I had included it, but I guess I forgot. The sacrifice of the chapter's chaplains and tenth company was part of the ritual slaughter that bought Kaziel his daemonhood. The Faithful and the future, that was what killing them represented. the Tenth company being the scout squad and a renegade chapter not being able to create new initiates. This makes it so that the chapter will never grow again. They gave up on the future. Logistically; it makes collecting the entire chapter easier, cheaper, and more fluffy for me. Your note about the Priests. One, the Sanguinary Priests and the Chaplains were separate orders in the Blood Angels cannon, the Priests being essentially their Apothecaries. Your note of, if they don't have the rage then why keep the elevated medics around. Well, I am inclined to say that it was because of a fear of the rage, but I think ti would be better to say something else, instead. If I am having them loyal longer, then perhaps I will have the rage crop up but be less for them than other blood angel successors. Until Khorne's influence inflamed it. I do like them being part of the cursed founding and am thinking of making so that they fell around 1000 years ago. Part of the modelling for them will be mixing in imperial and chaos iconography to show that the chapter''s armory has not converted over completely. The priesthood was not expunged completely, only mostly by Claudius. The few remaining became his Priesthood of the Dark blood. Other modelling information, I don't want to use the Khorne berserkers models, hate the bunny ears, so I want to use Smurf assault marines with chaosy bits for my beserker models, which are troops in 5e. Thargrim - I will note that and if I post battle reports in the future I will note that somehow, but I won't change the actual name of my chapter unless this guy is in my local club. Thanks for that.
