Templars of Ultramar [Sculpting Commission]

Gawain Veteris

Vairocanum: The price varies depending on various factors such as the bits you want me to use, how long it will take, size, depth of detail and so on. For a model of this size and detail, give or take £50 if I have the necessary components in my bits box. I don't add the price of the GS itself because I buy that for myself.

I've made enough progress to warrant posting today. So here we have the creation of the chaplain til the point I'm at now.

Initial Concepts: Apologies for the shoddy picture quality on the concept sketches.

Helmet: I'm thinking of using the second rather than the initial helmet design. Preference anyone?

Torso and Legs: Capturing the movement is important for cloaks and surplices because if they're just thrown on they shatter the pose. A marine who's charging looks like he's a statue if the cloak's on wrong, while at the same time the right cloak would make him look like he was piling into a mob of xenos with a song in his heart haha

This is him with the original helmet for the moment:

At this point he is unarmed... worry not, he needs his anti-chaos beating stick as much as the next chaplain. I've begun work on repositioning the thunder hammer pare of arms and handle from the death company sprue and I've already made the left shoulder pad (pics will follow soon).

Thanks, Comments welcome.

The first helmet looks kinda goofy tbh. So far I definitely prefer the second one-for me skulls are made or broken by the jaws. Apart from that I'm loving the mini, can't wait to get my grubby mitts on him. All this is reminding me that I have yet to get some paint on that Sicarius you made me a few months ago. I might start up work on him tomorrow thanks to the day off work I have tomorrow.

Oh, crap, I didn't realise you still had exams. Put this on hold for as long as you need to, I don't wanna be getting in the way of your college work like. For anyone who's interested, I'm planning on an entire strikeforce of these guys (they're a fleet-based chapter where basically each battle company is a separate entity, and the other 6 companies are spread throughout), with all the characters sculpted by Gawain Veteris, with these as the first wave till I sort out the contents of this strikeforce. Once I get some black paint I'm going to kick off a WIP thread for them here so everyone can see how these model turn out. On an unrelated note, I'm planning on starting to paint a Sicarius model I commissioned Gawain back in september some time tomorrow.

No don't worry at all. There's just this last one, and this project is good for down time. I look forward to seeing the rest of this strike force and indeed how Sicarius turns out. I'm making preliminary sketches of the Templars of Ultramar Sicarius stand-in as we speak actually haha

Awesome, mind putting them up when they're done? I'm still kind of thinking that the original concept you showed me looked too much like the actual Sicarius mini for my tastes. Fine for when it's actually meant to be Sicarius, he does look sexy after all, but the mini has too much of a classical theme to fit in with these.

EDIT: Maybe something like what this guy has for his helmet?

EDIT 2:Actually, looking again, the main thing from that artwork that looks like Sicarius is his face, which will be in a helmet anyway

I agree, too codex if you ask me. These new concepts are based on a piece of artwork from the BTCodex (I'm afraid I cant tell you what page as I don't have it handy). I will post them up once they're finished. I'm thinking, the ultimate emperor's champion (plus plasma pistol).

Here is the Chaplain with some more progress.

Torso: For all intents and purposes the torso it'self is finished apart from some plastic details like purity seals and holy orbs and so on but they will go on when I know how the rest of the model will stand. These pictures are up to demonstrate the basic shape the model will take in the end.

Crozius and Wrist-mounted Plasma Pistol: These arms have received some serious re positioning and the plasma is what I am particularly happy with.

Thanks very much for comments and compliments brothers. They are very encouraging.

Here we have the second model in the series completed. Features to which I would invite your particular attention are the wrist mounted plasma pistol which for me is far preferable to the one offered by the sanguinary guard sprue. The latte seems a lil dainty and pretty for a skull faced warrior preacher with a thumping great education stick being wielded two-handed! The other thing you might like to look at is the torso and surplice which will be present on the captain and the future honourguard. One difference however is that the honourguard and captain will have full surplices rather than the half one which shows the rib cage on the chaplain's torso.

I prefer the conversion of the wrist mounted storm bolter to a plasma pistol - the magazine always looked very off to me. what you've done is an improvement on the basic part. :woot:

Have to say, I love the beat stick. Still not too sure on the pistol though, it lacks coolant vents, and the barrel looks uneven. I'm not too sure how to fix it though, maybe cutting the barrels of two pistols in half and fusing them might work? Apart from that though, I love him. Gonna have to sit down and actually plan out what this strikeforce is actually made up of so I can start writing the fluff and figure out what the next wave of stuff is gonna be made up of
