at it again ...

paintner

Recommended Posts

so I been away from the hobby, again, for some time.

school, exams etc you know the things that make us have to stop playing and/or painting from time to time.

so I got a buckload of minis that I havn't started painting. a whole army more likely.

I bought them when the BT got released (2006 I think it might have been?) and only put them together.

so now I am thinking on how to paint them, again. as I been down this road each time I get time to paint.

'how should I paint them, what colours? different on troops and termies?' etc ...

so I am looking for some inspiration and/or tips.

I do NOT want to paint them black. I had a 'primer and white' BT army way back that I sold. and it was boring as hell =)

I want some more colours. but I am unsure of a theme and I would like to see the results in front of me before I start it so to speak.

what should the troops look like and will they look nice w the termies and7or jump marines etc. do they match the pods and the rhinos? do they have too?

need some people to pitch ideas with simply =)

any takers?

If your looking for inspiration watch the film kingdom of heaven. Theres plenty of heraldry and symbols, also look at the weapons of that era. Such as the morning star (which is a small piece of wood with a spiked ball attached at the end by a chain) Im sure you could use it as a "count as" weapon. Hope this helps you out mate

thanks for your input.

but to clarify I am more after the colours and what might go well with what.

regarding the gear and things like that I am already set up =))

I actually watched that movie some month ago and made a few mental notes, that I since forgotten. might have to see if I can recall what it was =)

I always liked red armies and I am thinking on going with that as a base of some sort. but the times I tried it it always ended up more Khorn and gory looking than Imperial and crisp.

Also like blue but want to try to stay away from the smurf blue (vanilla).

well. maybe ...

I been thinking on using grey, red and black on my LRC.

grey as a main colour, red on some parts of the side armour and black on those small deep places on the side front.

so that is one idea I got. but then I am thinking how I would do my marines. same colours? it feels dull in some way.

I am kinda undecided in whole as of how to paint the army and what colours to pick for the units/models etc.

I need find and set my mind on some base colours and see how I would work them with teh different models I got.

And so far I havn't god an idea that I think work =p

One of the best combinations I've seen (and one of the hardest to pull off) is yellow heraldry on a black field. This is an excellent, and aggressive, color scheme in combination with white trim and metal armor.

You can also choose to have all of your cloth black, and trim the outer edges in yellow/orange bands. (A 45 degree slash of yellow on top of a 45 degree slash of orange, rinse repeat)

Be warned, Yellow on black is easy to jack up.

I actually got a few special weapons marines painted in a sandy colour with black cloth and yellow insides and trim, and they look awesome! =)

But for the rest of the army I am thinking a red base, and maybe I should keep the theme with the black and yellow as it should work with the red.

  • 2 weeks later...

My biggest problem is how to compose the colours of the whole army.

Lets say I do the regular marines GREY and the termies RED for example.

What should I do the tanks in? One grey base and one red base?

Also I have a few special weapons marines I already painted up in a sandy colour. Is it to much to keep them the same way or re-paint?

I feel I need to have a clear picture of the whole before I start or I will change my mind at some point, as I done so many other times =/
