Dark Angels at the Huntsville CAGE Qualifier

I've spent the last several months working on Dark Eldar and Grey Knights, so I haven't had a lot of play time with my Dark Angels, but they are always the goto army when I want to compete on a comfortable level. Today The Foundry had it's qualifier for the Alabama CAGE Match, and I brought out the Deathwing. The CAGE Match is using the ATC Rules. You can find out more about the ATC Here.

I'll type up individual reports later, just wanted to give a synopsis and let everyone know I do still play this game :)

Here is the list I ran:

Belial w/ TH/SS

DW Command w/ 5x TH/SS, Apothecary, Standard, CML

4x Deathwing Squads w/ CML, Chainfist & 2x TH/SS

RW Attack Squadron w/ 2 Meltaguns, chainsword, Multimelta AB, PW, Meltabombs

2x RW Support Squadron w/ MM/Typhoon

2x Predator w/ Turret Autocannon & Lascannon Sponson

First Match vs Grey Knights (Draigowing) | Pitched Battle deployment

Result: Full Win, 30 points out of 30.

Second Match vs IG | Sperhead deployment

Result: Full Win, 30 points out of 30

Third Match vs Necrons (Scarab/Wraith Spam) | Dawn of War deployment

Result: Loss, 10 points out of 30 (I won on C&C, lost on SG & KP)

Each round was 2.5 hours, which is kind of draining. We've been doing a lot of 1500 point events lately with 1.5 hour rounds which I really like, so this just felt a lot like a gauntlet. I was goofing off and making bizarre plays in the 3rd game, and ended up just grabbing an objective in the corner and making sure his troops weren't able to get more than their one. His Wraiths and Scarabs probably made 600 attacks or so over the course of the game, and I was returning the favor with lots of instant death.

The top 2 spots (the Necron player and myself) will be representing our store in the next event and competing for a chance at the awesome banner made by JawaBalls.

I need to get a lot more games in so that I'm ready for the 2-day event. It's gonna be at the end of march, so I've got time to prepare and get myself ready for a grueling gauntlet. In formats like ATC and NOVA, Deathwing fare very well, but it takes a lot out of you as you have to carefully plan out 7 turns of movement and reactions for 7 turns before you even deploy. This army wins by barely holding on and simply being stubborn. Very fitting for DW, IMO.

First place was 3-0 with 80 total points, 3rd place was 2-1 with 60 total points, and I had 2nd place at 2-1 with 70 points. Grabbed myself a second Storm Raven with my winnings to help finish up my Grey Knights list (just need a couple of Lascannon/Plasmagun turrets for my razorbacks to have the full 2k list finished there)

Reports to come later.
