Terran
Hi guys, I recently started reading a book given to me by a friend (Horus Rising) and instantly got addicted to the world of Warhammer 40k especially that of the Space Marines. I started reading Horus Rising on 1st Jan and am currently on the 4th book, The Flight Of The Eisenstein, don't think I have read so much in my life. I have decided to start collecting a Space Marine army, never done this before so just wanted to clear a few things up. I know that in the current time of Warhammer 40k that the traitor legions have been destroyed or are currently wandering the depths of the eye of Terror, would it be "wrong" of me to collect my army and make an up to date Sons of Horus (i.e as in that Horus was never tainted and rebelled) Or would this be frowned upon?! Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246019-hello-from-manchester-complete-novice/ Share on other sites
Olis
Interesting idea. You could always explain it by saying they're from the Dornian version of the heresy (a homegrown alt universe from B&C). :) Oh, and hail and welcome, brother! Terran
Thanks for the welcome. I have heard about the Dornian heresy, sounds like an interesting twist on things. Will have to read that once I get through my current books. Just become attached to the Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus through reading the books, especially Loken. Alternatively I'd like to a codex chapter that is not one of the main chapters, maybe one from the second founding e.g Silver Skulls. Olis
Silver Skulls, eh? Well, there's a thread for them, too. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246019-hello-from-manchester-complete-novice/#findComment-2976210 Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
Welcome fellow Salfordite! Sounds like an interesting project you're thinking about. One of the nice things about the Chaos codex is that it relates to warbands, not legions. So in fact you can excuse away anything! Your force could be a company of the Sons of Horus which was trapped mid-warp jump somewhere, we know the sands of time run strangely in the warp, there's nothing to say some strange anomaly couldn't have kept them trapped there for 10,000 years! I'm halfway through repainting my marines, but I was doing one of the lesser known chapters, the Iron Snakes. (See link below) See what you think of them? Looking forward to seeing how you get on. Terran
Cheers WotF, I like your thinking with regards to some of the Sons of Horus being trapped in the warp. Especially as at the time of the Istvaan III assault the warp was particularly difficult to navigate during that period. I could say that a Frigate with a number of squads from one of the Sons of Horus companies (squads that Horus would have sent to Istvann III as he couldn't turn them away from the Imperial Truth) were due to rendezvous with the rest of the 63rd Expedition but got caught up in the Warp and never made it, appearing centuries later and have now sworn the oath to destroy the Black Legion and the brothers that betrayed them, but am guessing they would have returned back to the Luna Wolves! Would I have to use the Chaos Codex for this or could I still base it on the Space Marines Codex as I have recently purchased that?! Am also toying with the idea of creating my own chapter, but want to see how the Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves scenario turns out. I'll also give your army a look, currently in work, sneakily writing this!! WingsOfTheFalcon
To be honest fella, with that back story, you can choose either, or play both! (Not in the same game obviously!) Either way look forward to seeing what you do!
