Mutters LPC 2012 - Soul Drinkers

Recommended Posts

I, Mutters of the Index Astartes, vow on the honour of my Chapter, the Soul Drinkers, to paint and present the following models: 1 AoBR Captain, 1 Sanguinary Priest (Apothecary), 1 Tactical Squad with their Dedicated Transport, 1 Space Marine Biker, and 1 AoBR Dreadnought on or before the 31st of March, 2012. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

Last year, I painted 5 scouts and a dreadnought. This year I'm upping the ante by painting one model for each Force Organization Slot (including a Dedicated Transport)

Here is the picture of the models as they are now:

And here is how my current Soul Drinker army looks:

The plan is to get the first picture to look like the second picture! My apologies to the Ultramarines. I bought your brethren on ebay, and I'm going to have to paint over the wonderful blue with my dastardly purple.

Cold and Fast, Soul Drinkers!

So here's my first update. In this one, I started painting the Tactical squad purple. Also, I found a meltagun in my bitz box, and decided to swap out the beaky flamer marine for a meltagun marine I put together. Here is the tactical squad after Purple paint:

Also, to appease the machine spirits of the armor, and out of honor to the Ultramarine Chapter, of which these loyal soldiers were seconded, I composed this Poem:

The Emperor calls you to his side!

Rise Soldier, and be reborn!

Macragge beckons no longer,

for you will be Sons of Dorn.

Fear not, your banner is not forsaken!

The Ultramarines have their due.

But there is a much greater need,

So cast aside your Blue.

Those glories are not forgotten!

The battles you did field,

As you turn in your proudest Blue

For the color of Royal Zeal.

You once knew tact, it served you well,

Just as Guilliman taught.

Now you will know of Righteousness,

And drink of Dorn's deep draught.

You will drink the soul of sinners,

And know their xenos thoughts.

To know their greatest weakness,

And why their wars are fought.

Soul Drinker Rise! Awaken! Stand!

You have yet begun your fight!

Cold and Fast. you shall be!

And bring the Emperor's light!

After saying the Oath multiple times over each model while painting it, I've finished the Tactical Squad:

Here's some notes on it as well. First, I paint my heavy/special weapons with red or orange shoulderpads. This is so I can find them easily on the board, and also, since the Soul Drinkers are a specialized Ship to Ship assaulting chapter, it makes it easier for a commander to see the different wargear at a glance in crowded ship quarters. I was thinking to go with the following color scheme: Red-Flamer, Yellow-Plasma, Green-Melta, Black-Missile Launcher, Blue-Lascannon, and something else for Heavy Bolter. That way, its easy for my opponents to see what I have laid out, and makes sense with the chapter's background.

Also, I've painted the exhaust vents on my Sergeant gold. My Sternguard veterans (which I got off ebay painted like Hawk Lords) are purple and gold, so I've taken to adding the little bit of gold trim to the vents as a signifier of veteran status.

Also, I was in a painting craze last night and did some work on the Apothecary (Counts As Sanguinary Priest)

I'm still up in the air on this guy. He looks great and has good trim, but I looked up what Apothecaries are supposed to look like, and I should probably paint the red shoulderpad purple, and paint those mechanical things on his backpack black like the model on GW's site. Still, I like the whole red and white medical theme, and I wanted him to be easily distinguishable across the table. My goal this year as a gamer is to get my army to a point where all the unique elements are painted very distinctly and easily recognizable. Also, getting more meltaguns, so I don't have to keep saying "my flamers are meltaguns" any more. :)
