Space wolves pack (what's in the box)

BROTHERS OF THE FANG!!!!

I have currently downed one three many ales (Scotch) so need clarification on a few things. I bought a pack of wolves tonight (1st one :)) and I saw a post similar to this earlier somewhere about weapon loadouts but I need to ask before I assemble. The box doesn't have any meltas, which I plan on having in most of my squads, but I DID want to run one squad with 2 plasma guns in it. As the box contains 2 plasma guns this is easily doable (mates of mine have spare meltas but I really wanna put these guys together tonight)

So after a stupidly long intro to a question (blame the ale!) are squads containing 2 plasmas a good option?

I use plasma for my home unit, the ones guarding my home objective or one close to my table end, so they can get there turn one and shoot the rest of the game, If your going aggressive than its no good as its assault or shoot.

But i'm sure 2 GH with plasma will get used if you have them.

Theyre flexable enough for either task- and I use them as such.

The Plasmagun has the same range as a bolter. Its good versus light vehicles and has the range to stop most transports before they get where they are going- wich is the point eh? They also cut a good swath into heavy infantry. I would heartily reccommend a double plasmagun pack. Heck, if you have the points sometimes I like to add a pistol in too- especially in a DPing force, where I know Ill get the shots.

Then it's settled, these guys will be assembled with 2 plasmas. Btw off topic but I've just finished painting my TDAWG (yes I bought them before normal troops they're just such brilliant models!!) and I want to throw up some pics of them. best place would bee...?
When I take my 3 GH squads, they tend to follow the same pattern of 2x double melta for my 'attack' squads and 2x plasma for my 'defend' squad. Basically for the reasons Grey Mage has already said. They go in my rather stationary unit so they've got a bigger threat range if I need the support, or will just lay into anything that comes for the objective or into my backfield.
Defensive?? Wow I am such a noob. I planned on running these guys at the toughest infantry I can find, rapid firing bolters and plasmas and assaulting what (if any) is left. I take it that's a bad tactic? Haha

No rappidfire and asault in the same turn, you know this right, thats why melta is better for troops like this, Boltpistol and melta before charge

THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING!!! I mean you still have to pass the LD test but WoC (fantasy) have LD 8 and after playing them for the last 4 months it's not hard to pass that test. Sure the dice gods can be cruel but even if we don't get countercharge, throw a PW or PF in the squad and things will get messy still.

Aye,

im currently running 2 GH squads with melta - attack squads

and 1 GH squad with a plasma gun (with a rune priest attached) - shooty defence squad

I tend not to run 10 man squads, as then you cant attach WG and still fit them in rhinos (and the wolf guard extra leadership for counter attack can be awesome on bad dice rolls)..so the squad only has one special weapon, however the WG taking combi melta/plas usually rounds this out anyway (they may only get the one shot, but i get hem stuck into CC 9 times out of ten after that anyway..)
