Brother Kovash WIP Thread

Brother Kovash

Recommended Posts

Taking the advice of our esteemed battle brother, Captain Semper, I'm going to post some of my work for this year's LPC here in the subforum. The deadline to sign up is January 31st, so far anyone out there who is still hesitant or already has some models they are working on, please help us contribute! You can pledge to complete any number of models, and you have until the 31st of March to complete them. If I can get off my lazy arse and put some work in, then you can too.

My original pledge was 1 DW Captain, 1 DW Terminator Squad, and 1 Drop Pod. I'm making progress on the Terminators, hopefully will be complete within two weeks. After that will be my Drop Pod, and then my DW Captain.

Here are the terminators after some white primer spray hit them:

After this they get a wash with gryphonne sepia. I've been using the same technique for every DW terminator that I've painted. I watched a few videos and read a few tutorials before I began painting, and to me this is the best method if you're going for the bone color look.

Okay here are some more pics with the basecoat on. I use Reaper Polished Bone, and mix it 1:1 with GW Graveyard Earth. After mixing, I add in a few drops of the bone color to lighten it up a bit. Skull white also works. Then just apply paint where it's needed, taking care not to go over the crevices that the sepia wash filled in.

These three were basecoated today. I tried to frame them a little better, the efforts from the day before were lacking just a little bit:

I'm planning on painting the =][= shoulder pad in all black, since this sergeant will have served in the Deathwatch prior to joining the Deathwing. I'm doing this to add a little back story to my troops, but also because I don't have any DW shoulder pads left. :P

Well done on joining our plight in the hour of need brother Kovash, I have good faith you will complete your vow in time!

Good progress so far, and I'm loving the poses on those termies, especially the way they wield their thunderhammers.

Always good to see someone else opt for the Heavy Flamer/Power Sword combo for their sergeant!

Here's the update I've been promising, however I didn't get around to detailing my fifth terminator. He'll be completed during the week.

I didn't clean these guys up yet either, that will be done once the fifth Battle Brother is detailed. After that comes the washes and some basing. Full WIP thread can be found here: LPC 2012

Good progress mate! Your termies are coming along nicely. Can't wait for washes/shading on the metallics - it will add great depth to your work!

Truthfully though, it's the drop pod i'm waiting for!!! :)

The first part of my vow is complete:

Next I will be working on my Drop Pod. Stay tuned for more updates, hopefully later this week. :D

Edit: Some images from my album aren't working for some reason.

Looks like a very tidy job there Brother Kovash! A bit of Badab Black on the metal areas and you're ready to go!

How about the doors? This could be time consuming, large areas an'all but it's also and opportunity to add character to the pod (hazard stripes, tranfers, badges etc). Suffice to say I look fwd for the completed thing! :)

Nice work with the drop pod Brother K! You have to agree with me it's far too impressive a model to be "just" a transport! But what a transport it is! The epitome of Space Marines!!! :)

So you're updated to 90%. Are you gonna be done in the weekend?

Congratulations Brother Kovash! Your Odessey ends here! :pirate: A perfect finish to a labourious and productive LPC! I also commned your self-restraint to wait until the next update by Sigismund Himself before using the well deserved banner!

Oh, and the cape is very well done, a nice contrast to the bone and a bit feral may I add! Now have a coffee, get a cigar and relax Brother! :P

Thanks for the good words, Brothers. Much appreciated. PhDGamer the idea for the sergeant with the heavy flamer came after a discussion I had with my friend about the codex. It seems legal to us, so I went ahead and built the model. Of course, once I used it in a game against him with my other heavy flamer squad, needless to say he wasn't happy. Between both flamers I picked up 11 hits and got 2 kills before the charge, no small feat when going against Wolf Guard in TDA. If I can find the pics I'll post them up later. Always a fun game when it's Space Wolves versus Dark Angels.

As it stands, I've got a lot of work to do. I still have two squads of Deathwing terminators, along with several groups of bikes and other infantry (scouts, company vets, devastators, tactical squads) leftover to paint. The LPC was a great way to get started, but unlike my fellow Battle Brothers I've became lax in my discipline. So, from now on I'll be posting work from time to time. First up will be the half painted squad of DW sitting in my case. I'll provide pictures later, I've been running around doing various errands the last couple of days.
