henrywalker
I want to build an apocalypse army. I want it to have character and be interesting to play, I always feel that when playing apocalypse it gets boring if there is no story or theme behind it. I also want to build it around my existing grey knights (which can be about 7500 points at the moment) the problem is that a pure GK army will have a low model count (7500 is about 85 models) and from what i know they would rarely form a vast army, also i like the idea of a good, varied force. What i'm thinking is the sort of army that the inquisition has gathered to face a large daemonic incursion. of the top of my head i imagine several inquisitors with one main character with special rules large and varied warbands etc riding chimeras and any other transport tanks i can think of a squad of sisters of battle with a cannoness and some other characters a legion of the damned section including terminators a couple of tactical squads, a lord and a dreadnought (im making these anyway so they are definitely in) a large force of grey knights, probably taking my current 40 paladins up to 60, a large amount of purifiers and several dreadknights (which im sure could form an interesting formation) some heavy weapons tanks from the SM codex, ie vindicators and whirlwinds possibly some vanilla space marines, more likely a section of either templar or dark angels as i like the models several units of guard including some heavy tanks (although im not the biggest fan of IG so not too many) I think altogether this has the potential to be an awesome Inquisition apocalypse army what else might i include? have i been stupid to miss some things out? any other comments? The Holy Heretic
Nope. You basically included every imperial army besides other space marines, so nothing is missing :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246222-the-grey-knight-apocalypse/#findComment-2979264 Share on other sites

Drachnon
Despite it looking like a fun list most apocalypse games I've been to end with normal models not doing anything while the super heavies and tank armies just destroy everything from a distance. jeffersonian000
I like to treat most of my games like naval battles. The superheavies are my battleships, while my tanks are cruisers/escort carriors, and my infantry are fighter planes. My goal is to deliver as much ordinance on to the enemy as I can while protecting my battleships behind a screen of fighters and cruisers/carriers. Since my fighters are lightly armed and short ranged, my cruiser/carriers deliver them forward to meet the enemy's screening elemants, preventing those elements from ranging on my battleships. Currently, I field 2 Reavers and 2 Warhounds (scratch built) as my "battleships" (BB) and "battlecruisers" (BC), Land raiders as "Armored Carriers" (CA), Grey Knight Terminators (now Paladins) as "superiority fighters", and Power Armor Grey Knights as "interceptors" (ironic, as I can now field them as actual GK Interceptors). Soon to be added to my Apocalypse "fleet" will be two scratch built Warlord "Dreadnoughts" (DN) and a scratch built Emperor "Super Dreadnought" (SD). When I get them, I'll be adding DreadKnights as "Destroyers" (DD) to support my screen by tackling heavy enemy elements. I'd also like to add some Psiflemen Dreads to the mix as "gunboats" (GB), and maybe a couple of Stormravens as "escort carriers" (CE). Its a work in progress.
