Ocularis Crusade

Hey All, thought I'd finally post some pics of my army.

Before starting my army, I read a great 'How To' article on GW.com about painting Templars with toned black by mixing increasing amounts of Scorched Brown into Chaos Black with a final highlight of Graveyard Earth. Their reason behind the brown tone had to do with the fact that power armour and vehicles from the Astartes are ancient and therefore should feel old and weathered. It also suggested using Bleached Bone instead of white to further the effect. I've used that procedure here on my across my entire army (with the exception of the Neophytes which should appear crispy clean and new).

Very, very nice looking.

I really like the idea of that technique as I like the look of a black that isn't so stark. My DIY chapter is half white/half black and in order to not make it look too cartoony, I washed the black with a thinned wash of Chaos Black/Scorched Brown. It kept the black very distinct, but didn't smack you in the face. Then when I built up the white from a light stone color (VMC 987), I got the contrasts I was looking for, but it was a softer contrast.

I am definitely going to give your suggestion a go.

Thanx for the tip and your crusade is looking quite awesome.

Cheers,

BTW, have you entered into the Librarium painting challenge? You only have to paint one guy (it could be more if you want) between now and March 31st. You just go to the general painting forum and enter in a vow and your in. The challenge closes on February 1st.

We are neck in neck with the Dark Angels...who are heretics and should not be allowed to exist after the Ophidium Gulf incident.

Cheers,

these look amazing brother! well done!!

is there any link for that article maybe??? :P

There's no active link anymore but luckily I took a screenshot of the article before they took it down. Sorry, GW... I'm sure you don't mind me posting this :)

In the words of a wise fellow: "Fukken saved!"

Nice!

It's good to see more and more people joining our little forum here, and seeing more crusades pop up!

I really like the marshall, you planning on doing him and the termie the same basing as the dread and neo's?

Absolutely, my basing will be consistent across the whole army (which is also consistent with my Citadel Gameboard).

Thanks!

Do you mind forwarding a link to said painting challenge? Would love to participate

Yup, I'm one of those nut-jobs that paint the inside of vehicles. Here's a look at the interior of my Land Raider Crusader... Of course the exterior is still completely unfinished :woot:
