Tattoos on Space Wolves, Sven Bloodhowl's company

My company of wolves is led by the great Sven Bloodhowl, and I want to represent the fact that they tattoo themselves with symbols representing honorable deeds and such. Since the only bare parts of my wolves are the faces, how would you suggest I paint the tattoos? Should it be more like facepaint, ala Braveheart? Or should I try to actually paint tattoos and symbols? Does anyone have any examples I could use for inspiration? I would love to see some fellow wolves of Sven Bloodhowl's company if there are any out there!
If you could paint actual symbols and marks on their faces that would be really impressive. You'd need a very fine brush and a steady hand. I did a little kohl on one of my helmless Thousand Sons using not a brush but a superfine pen.
I was thinking of using a fine tipped pen, I'm good with a brush but maybe not THAT good. I was thinking more lines and patterns instead of actual symbols. I have been looking online but nobody tattoos their space marine's faces, lol.

Good luck He Plays Guitar, I'd like to see what you do. I use a 003 Deleter fine pen. They make black, red, blue, green and a few other basic colours. I think there's a grey now, which might be useful for SWs.

For what it's worth, my one marine with kohl is HERE. He was a bit of a practice, hopefully future ones will be better (and probably more adventurous).

I've of course used all the un-helmeted heads, and on a few of the bald ones, I've added a tattoo. I just did a simple stripe going from their eyes straight back. I like it alot. Works really well on my custom rune priest.

If I were to do any type of face tattoo, I think it'd be up and down through the eyes. Sorta like a scar.
