Magnetising backpacks: Is it possible?

In a few days I will be receiving the final parts for the modelling of my DIY chapter's leader, Knight Commander Ulric. For the most part he uses company champion pieces - namely the shoulders, sword, body and head. The legs and jump pack however will be Sanguinary Guard (to give him that "angelic" feel), although depending on my list I may want to switch between a jump pack and standard backpack.

My question is; how would you go about magnetising a jump pack and backpack? What size magnet would you use? and how would you attach/embed it into the pack or armour?

Magnetizing a jump pack and backpack to a marine is super easy. Here is a captain of mine that has been magnetized in such a way:

I used 1/8 inch diameter by 1/16 inch depth magnets. To make a spot for them, get an appropriate size drill bit, in this case 1/8 inch, and drill a hole of an approximate depth. The depth does not need to be exact because your glue will hold the magnet in place wherever you need it.

Important note: Make sure your magnets are properly aligned when gluing them in place. You don't want to have them repelling each other! Probably the easiest way to make sure they're aligned the proper way is to glue in one side, then put the matching magnet on it and use a marker to note which side needs to be hidden.

As you can see in the picture, I placed the magnets above the normal joining point, the "nub" on the back of the marine's chest. I did this so I wouldn't have to worry about the alignment of the backpack every time I switched it. You could easily just trim off the nub and use that spot for it.
