First of all, I want to let everybody know that this blog will be a long one with some very slow progress. I don't get a lot of time to spend on my hobby (maybe a couple of hours a week, no more), but this log is something that I hope will give me the required push to get a decent force out there.

THE THEME:

The theme of this force is a little different from the standard Deathwing fluff. I don't particularly like the Cherokee Indian / Native American flavour that they have had previously, and carried through with the eagle feathers, nor do I see them as "Fallen Hunters" despite it being their primary mission. Instead I would like to see them more as Knights of Calliban, and carrying through some of the traditions of the pre-Heresy Knightly Orders on Calliban into the forty-first Millenium. With this in mind, this is a broad set of guidelines that I want to set my self with how these models will look and feel:

  • The basic Terminator Armour will not be drastically changed or modified, they will still be instantly recongnisable as Terminators.
  • All Terminators will have bits and pieces adorning their armour which show their heritage. In particular I want all models to have a sheathed sword hanging from their belts (or TDA equivalent to belts); these will have no in-game function, and will be too small to be handled with any effect, but are taken from the Order on Calliban and are relics from when the knightly orders embarked on quests before the Imperium came to Calliban. Other odds-and-ends will also be included to provide a more gothic feel to the models.
  • I don't like the overly-bone colour that the Deathwing have descended to, and much prefer the ashen white that they had many years ago. In fact, I will be looking to use the following painting guide: Painting Guide
  • Sergeants will stand out from their squad through the use of either robes or tabbards. I won't be using personal banners, but will make use of a smallish icon to use the space and add a little more distinction.
  • Not knowing the direction of any future releases, I want to ensure that what I have isn't invalidated through codex changes. Therefore for the first few squads I will restrict myself to squad armourments from the regular Space Marine Codex. This means either a regular Terminator squad with a heavy weapon, or a dedicated assault squad. In keeping with the Deathwing lore, these squads will be restricted to a fixed size of 5 models. Also I will not be initially doing a Deathwing Banner bearer or Apothecary.
  • For HQ choices I will be building the required Belial, and I will also try my hand at an Interrogator Chaplain.
  • I will also be including Venerable Dreadnoughts and Land Raiders as appropriate

FORCE SIZE:

For starters I want to have a force that I can play at around 1750 points with some scope to swap bits and pieces around. So I am initially looking to do 4 squads of terminators, Belial and an Interrogator Chaplain, with a pair of Venerable Dreadnoughts and a pair of Land Raiders. Once the future is a little more clear I will look to exapnd this out to a much larger force, with some more specialised squads depending on any new rules (new codex, new 6th edition, etc).

As for photos, well it's traditional to start with at least one in an initial posting. Since I don't have anything constructed or painted yet, what I can offer is a view of my main Terminator bits box that I will be building the majority of the squads from. I've been hoarding bits and pieces for a while now, waiting for the time when there is a new Dark Angels release. I have other bits boxes dotted around for other things (and I will be diving into some of them for this project), but this one has been dedicated for TDA.

I will update as soon as I get some bits and pieces put together, but please feel free to comment as you see fit.

for swords then there are a couple of sheathed ones on the catchan command squad frame
