-Volsung-
Hey, all! So I am thinking of starting out on a Blood Claw pack project, and I am torn between painting them with the same markings or with a mixed unit batch. The way I see it, I am a bit confused whether Blood Claws get their pack markings when they get promoted individually, or do they all get promoted as a whole pack and enter the ranks of the Grey Hunters? If this was the case, do their packs markings merely change colors? What if it conflicts with an already existing grey hunter pack? And who designates the pack marking for each packs to begin with? Ultimately: So Blood Claw pack with mixed markings and random pack identifications? Or unified blood claw pack colors? ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246626-blood-claw-pack-markings/ Share on other sites
Orphus
Well the codex shows that Blood Claws have red and yellow markings, with most being in a jagged pattern of some sort. hendrik
i'm pretty sure the only individual promotions are the following: -skyclaws if you're too thick headed to obey orders -wolf scouts -wolf guard -runepriest -wolfpriest -wolflord -wolfblades i'm pretty sure the bloodclaws advance as a pack through the ranks. Orphus
Just remember that Wolf Scouts are not a rank as such in the usual procession. It's like a step to the side that still gives options. Only those with a "dark, brooding streak" would make a common Wolf Scout. :EDIT: And wait a minute- wolfblades? frostclaw222
Wolfblades are the Wolves sent as bodyguards to House Belisarius's Navigator house on Terra. It's a mixed honor: you're basically cast off from your Great Company, but are the physical embodiment of the ancient bond between Fenris and the Navigator house that guides the VI Legion's fleets. Ragnar got kicked to the Wolfblades when he tossed the Spear of Russ into the warp. /fluffhead Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246626-blood-claw-pack-markings/#findComment-2985335 Share on other sites

It's like a step to the side that still gives options. well neither are runepriest, wolfpriest wolf guard, wolf guard battle leader or wolf lord. the typical space wolf will evolve through the ranks like this: bloodclaw>greyhunter>long fang as a bloodclaw one can get sorted out for the following: skyclaws wolfpriest (i believe, given that the wolf priest in wolf's honour was not much older than ragnar) runepriest (i believe) wolfguard (can happen in any stage), this opens carreer posibilities to wolf guard battle leader and possibly wolf lord and maybe even great wolf only once the bloodclaw reaches a point where his pack is ready to become grey hunters he may leave his pack to join the wolf scouts note a wolf scout can still become a wolf guard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246626-blood-claw-pack-markings/#findComment-2985347 Share on other sites
-Volsung-
So in this sense, would Skyclaws would be more liable to have mixed Blood Claw pack markings? Or do they adopt their own unique pack markings under whatever leadership they fall under? Like say, the Blood Claws in one pack all have yellow pads with a red wolf paw. If one of such Blood Claws develops a nasty temperament and goes to a Skyclaw pack, would he repaint his pack markings to a, say, jagged diagonal red and yellow scheme? So, in order for Skyclaws to become Grey Hunters, would they all have to be promoted? In the same sense, Grey Hunters on Landspeeders, are they also an extension of their pack or do they belong to their own packs? Or does it work in the way where Blood Claws are all, on a certain day, issued a ten-pack of bolters or even a flight of landspeeders? Khine
Maybe you could represent certain bloodclaws in your units with a different colour on one of the sections. This could represent anything from deviance (skyclaws in the making) or some sort of personal forsight (represent where they are bound to end up) or if you use a full black section could be that he plans on becoming a wolf scout. Just an idea, but be very careful how many you put in a single squad otherwise you will significantly break the coherency of the unit. Though in saying that, it might work if they are one of the bloodclaw units that don't make it. As others have said though, the pack evolves together because that is how wolves grow. *Scratches head*.. hmm.. it seems like all ive ended up doing is going around in circles. *passes over a flagon of Mjod* I acknowledge my failings and seek to correct it.
