Order of Olympia project log

It's taken me a while to actually get to this stage. Firstly there was actually buying the parts, which took me long enough due to a lack of money. Then there was a long period of me looking at my sprues and thinking "oh :D, so much to do." After I'd built them, I ended up looking at individual marines and doing what I could with greenstuff to make them cooler. Oh yeah, then I decided it'd be a fantastic idea to custom build a commander from a load of different parts from different boxes. Then there was holdups thanks to IRL stuff like school and work and whatnot, so I actually ended up with very little time to build, convert and paint.

Ah well - now that I'm on a spree of painting the minis, I thought I'd share what I had with you guys. My work is going to be ridden with noobish mistakes, so be as blunt as you like - I can only get better from here, right?

So yeah, three guys. After a month. That's my kind of painting spree.

The far right guy's shoulder doesn't actually have yellow streaks, that's just light from outside.

See? although it does have some rather unsightly green blotches. I need to get rid of those. As for the rest, most are stuck together and basecoated - 10 marines, 1 commander and 2 sternguard (more to come)

Combat Squad Uthor (complete with half-built flamer dude and brown guy. The brown is the base layer for the bone white finish).

Combat Squad Michaelus

The Two Stooges (yeah, I know one is an apothecary. It's just for looks though)

Captain McBadass (made using sanguinary guard legs and wings, company champion shoulders, head and body. I lopped the loincloth off the body because it didn't fit with the legs and moulded a new one. I left the purity seal heads there, and I'm going to paint them a metallic colour to make them look like rings holding the loincloth up. Also, don't panic about the crappy looking shield, it's not finished yet :cuss)

That's it for now. I'll update it when I next do something interesting.

A note on the painting - I was going for a dirty, war-torn, tired look to the armour, but I think I've gone overboard in places. All three painted models could do with some serious TLC to get them to a decent standard.

Really, really small update for now - I break up from school tomorrow though, so I promise things will come along faster then :(

This morning as I got ready to go out the door I had a quick look over a couple of my painted figs and realised that I could probably do much, much better. So when I got home I sat down, and lo and behold 15 minutes later one of my lil dudes looks a hell of a lot better.

As a celebration for me actually working out how to paint better, one of my mates decided to name him. Sideon it is :P

I'll have more soon, probably at some point over the weekend.
