Yellow and Black Marines (trying to not look like bees)

Howdy all,

I'm taking part in this little challenge to make a marine version of me. Building is going ok and I'm now thinking paint.

I want to avoid red as Blood Angels/Angels Sanguine are my regular boys. I also am quite keen to try yellow but dont want to end up with a good old Imperial Fist. Therefore, I thought I'd go with this:

Which is the away kit for my football (soccer) team (keeping it personal you see).

The nearest I've got that I'm quite happy with is this:

I think he looks pretty good and should be fun to paint. Normally I'd play about with this for days but I have waaaaayyyy too little time for a test model. Therefore I open the floor to you my B&C brethren.

Feedback/input would be appreciated and if anyone want's to have a go at a power armoured footballer in that kit I'd be happy to see your version! If you improve upon my version and I go with it you can check out the finished item in a week or two in the above linked thread!

the first looks good, but becareful with yellow i dont know what your painting level is.

but even more experienced painters avoid yellow, if you change the lower legs and make the knee pads

yellow it might just work out, but avoid big surface's

if you truelly want yellow use it as the base color and paint black over it

good luck

Yellow and black look very striking on the table. My marines are half yellow half black, straight down the middle. However the Bumble bee comments are unavoidable, but some people just want to say not nice things because they are jealous. Next thing is that as happy as I am with the paint scheme it is a pain to paint. Yellow is just hard to make it look good. Worth the effort but it is hard.

Heh, i had a colour scheme similar to this that i once wanted to do. Ended up giving them a bee wasp theme.

But seriously, there's some strange colour schemes out there, so long as you can keep it all uniform, it should look great :)

How's this as an alternative?

Thanks for this Olisredan, it's very similar to what I first went with (as it matches the footy strip well). I tried to break it up a bit with some of the smaller parts alternating, gonna play around with your yellow hands/feet suggestion.

Thanks to everyone else too, I've heard the rumours of yellow being a bit of a tricky one. As for schemes I will have a little experiment tomorrow and put a couple up for some votes maybe. I want it to be achievable consistently as, if I like it (and discover I can paint yellow), I'll use it for any potential vanilla marines. Will have to wait and see what my skills are up to!

Cheers, not seen them and he's pretty cool. Not sure I'm too capable of the black/yellow transition on the thigh though. Off to buy some grey primer today, then a final fiddle with the colours later on.

Any last minute input is welcome!
