MadMardigan
Hey all, trying to return to the hobby after a long time away. Left sometime around the middle of 4th edition (I think the Ork codex was just coming out) to get married, GW store at the local mall closed, life got in the way, etc etc. Must have been a forum reset at some point too, I remember having at least a few posts. Anyhoo... I mostly played vanilla marines of my own chapter (since third edition), but I had started a small Grey Knights/Daemonhunters force, and I'm looking for some use out of my old models. Needless to say they're all the old metals so far, with some FW mixed in. So here's what I have, give me some opinions on what to use them as, and possible loadout changes. I wasn't far enough along with them to make conversions painful. 1 Brother Captain Stern conversion (With helmet!) -Old school GK Halberd (which I don't want to give up)/SB 6 GKTs -1 Justicar with Halberd/SB -2 with Halberd/SB -1 sword/SB -1 sword/psycannon -1 converted power axe/incinerator 19 PAGKs -1 Justicar with Halberd -1 Justicar with sword -1 Justicar with converted spiked mace -10 GKs with halberds -1 GK with sword -5 GK with psycannons -1 GK with incinerator 2 FW Dreadnoughts (1 of each style) with the following arms available: -PC -TLHB (converted) -Psycannon -TLLC -2xTLAC (same side arm unfortunately) -2xDCCW (FW blade + chaos dread hammer conversion) -ML PAGK Techmarine (half built) Bits for planned PAGK apothecary, chaplain, standard bearer, and librarian. Also a bunch of converted inquisitors, a couple of squads of Kasrkin models, and a few converted daemonhosts. Looking back at my planned conversions, then looking in the new codex, it's amazing how many of my ideas GW put in. Unfortunately, they went the terminator route with most of them. So what do you think, brothers? I'm looking for opinions on loadouts, and whether the PAGKs should be strikes, purifiers, or whatnot. I'll eventually be posting some pictures of my work (and my regular marines too.) ~MM Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246777-returning-player-looking-for-opinions/ Share on other sites
Archon_77
I converted most of my old PAGK's to Purifiers, both because I was likely never to use Halberds on ordinary GKSS ever again (cost effeciency), and because I felt that they should be given a venerable spot in my force as an elites choice due to their age and general "I was doing this a long time ago" feelings. Something Wycked
What Archon said. Regular Grey Knights just are not cost-efficient if they are given a Halberd, but Purifiers are. No need to go the Crowe route since you only have 10 or 11 Halberds- you can make two pretty serious Purifier squads with those and the Psycannons. That said though, with your current models available it will be tough to get the 2 Troops requirement filled if you use your PA's as Purifiers. You may need to buy a box or two- either Termies and use them as your Troops, or PA's for some plastic Strike Knights. MadMardigan
Thanks guys, from what I've read on here, I figured I'd be going the Purifier route. I don't mind buying more models, I actually like the new plastics. But of course funds are always tight nowadays with a baby in the house. Everything's planned in the long term, you know? And it seems I've come back on the cusp of 6th edition, so of course I'm not going to bother with the 5th edition rules at all. I was thinking about possibly using my chaplain conversion as a counts-as Crowe, he's got a very chaplain-y feel to him with his Titan's herald rule. Plus I can paint all of the Purifier's helmets bone to match them to him. This also means that I've got way more troop choices if I do a Coteaz list with all of the Kasrkin/Stormtroopers/warriors with hotshot lasguns, daemonhosts, and HB/PC servitors. The problem, of course, is finding time/energy/motivation to paint now. Seems like there's never enough to go around. ~MM Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246777-returning-player-looking-for-opinions/#findComment-2987629 Share on other sites
