DIYing Sanguinor

Hello, fellow brothers!

Recently I decided to include Sanguinor to my army. I've never used him and finally decided to give him a try. This topic, however, is not about your experience with this unit. I'm interested if anyone made a conversion or DIY Sanguinor.

My story is that I can not buy Sanguinor in my LGS, as they never had it and likely won't have it in stock ever :D I was about to order it via eBay, but considering the time and fees needed to get it here I gave up the idea. Luckily I have enough spare bits to build my DIY Sanguinor. I already started modelling one - I won't post the pics, you can see them if you follow the link in my sig to my BA WIP blog.

So, I will highly appreciate if you post your conversions and DIY models, and of course any comments on my model are always welcome!

Cheers! :D

astrorath in gold makes a good sanguinor

failing that also anything that looks liks sanguinius...

if i was doing another from scratch i would use sanguary guard parts, yo could keep it simple and just remove the angelus bolter, or add loads of greenstuff hair to a death mask, add loads of long puriety seals, dead deamons on the base, big swords from any source, artificer styled armour... actually thinking, jumppack chaplin, with death mask head, sanguard jumppack, glave encarmine, and skull or something in the other hand...

Thanks for the input, brother!

I was thinking of converting either Astorath or JP chappy into Sanguinor. But since I like Astorath model and wanna run him as is, I decided to go the other way.

I really like the 'blood drops' armour set in DC box, the one with small arcs in greaves and breastplate. I noticed it's similar to the artificer armour image, displayed in Codex: Space Marines, with blood drops instead of skulls. Although it is different from canon BA artificer armour, it has more knightly look. I made two conversions using this armour set - one for Tycho and the other for Sanguinor. I think it should look nice when painted gold with red blood drops inside those arcs. I'm from my phone now, so don't have the pics to post. I'll do it later (anyway I wanted to show them ;)), but as I said earlier, you can see my Sanguinor in my WIP blog through the link in my sig.

The one bad thing about Sang Guard model as a basis for conversion, is that it will either look like another Sang Guard, or it will require considerable time and effort to make it look different :(

So, what do you think of this idea? And of course, more ideas on converting Sanguinor are welcome! :) I might use my current model as a Vanguard, and make another one for my Sanguinor :)

You mean this set?

personally its probably my favourite, but i think chaplin when i see it. then again that would depend on what your thinking for arms adn head, and jumppack for that matter... and of course pose, which can make or brake such a model.

how are you at working with plastics? maby you could carve and greenstuff that set of armour with some of the curves that are on tychos too? reason being you do want it to stand out more from your normal guys and if you have another model in your force using the same parts... well better his look better ? and the toes thing could be another idea. actually heres some pics for inspiration...

@ Brother nathan

Yep, I mean that very set :lol:

As for my skills with plastic, I'm good at butchering models ;) Seriously, I'm able to cut and replace parts, to a reasonable degree ;)

So, I have a pic of my WIP Sanguinor and Tycho:

Sorry for the poor quality, but it is all I can do now (it's midnight here and my eyes tend to shut :D) The left one is Tycho and the right one is my take on Sanguinor. He's quiet different from the official version. The reasons for this are: (1) no spare Sang Guard bits [i have to buy a new set and I doubt I'll put most bits to use] and (2) I wanted to make some sort of Emperor's Champion but for Blood Angels. The inspiration came from Codex: Black Templars cover. Although this is a pretty simple conversion I like it's pose - it's dynamic in my opinion and somehow realistic :)

Maybe I just played too many medieval-themed fantasy games recently, but I wanted to have some sort of knight in my army. The armor set I used is the most suitable for this, in my opinion. It is definitely BA-styled, and those arcs add some knightly theme. And I love two-handed swords ;) I'm about to buy Atorath, so it is possible that I'll chop off the regular jump pack and replace it with Astorath's one.

P.S. Nice models you have, Brother nathan!

P.P.S. That picture is my favourite image of Sanguinius. Can't stop enjoying it!

--EDIT--

@DaemonPrinceDargor:

Awesome model! How did yoou do it?

@Talnox

Thanks for clarification :lol:

@Brother Nathan

Man, that's a cool chappy. Nice head :lol:

@everyone

I finally got an idea how to make a Sanguinor conversion. No pics yet, but stay tuned for further updates. I hope I'll do it in a day or two :lol:

Hey guys!

As I promised, I post the pics of my Sanguinor conversion. Here they are:

Now I'm really happy with the result. An avenging angel as it should be :)

Thanks for kind words! :)

I'm quiet happy with the weapon. Although it's two times longer than the model's height I like how it looks - it's a polearm after all. And since Sanguinor has only the Glaive, I can imagine him swinging this large spear in the midst of the fight :P He should have something capable of slashing a bloodthirster in two :D
