Within days the Galician Marches, Torun Nebula, and Illyrian Core were engulfed in total war against their attackers. On Helica, and entire Imperial Battlegroup was surrounded and cut off. While the fleet above the world was able to resist the traitor’s vanguard, the arrival of the full fleet forced the Imperial Fleet to withdraw. The survivors were able to evacuate Lord Inquisitor Rohm before the world was entirely overrun. A single company of Astral Guard led the resistance from the mountain ranges only to be hunted down and killed to a man. The temple of the Blind Martyr on Arconis was desecrated in a foul ritual by Mindaugas and his host of Word Bearers, causing the enraged Cardinal Astra to declare a War of Faith to retake the world. Warsmith Bellator of the Iron Warsmith and Lord Hrongar of the Black Legion, High Archon of the Chaos forces invading the Martius Sector, land their armies on Alesia, capital of the sector. The combined warbands and millions of auxilia begin a violent campaign of occupation on the world, wiping out those who refuse to join the traitors. The sector burns and Imperial High Command dispatches forces to repel the invaders. 999.M41[War Without End] The High Lords elevate Lord Inquisitor Rohm to the rank of Imperial Legate, granting him the Seal of Terra and freedom to resist the invaders with complete control of all Imperial Forces in the sector. Hundreds of fresh regiments and eight Chapters of Adeptus Astartes arrive, lending their own considerable naval power and warriors to the war effort. Commander Coriolanus of the Astral Guard is given overall command of the space marine forces and granted the title Magister Militum by Legate-Inquisitor Rohm. Coriolanus quickly dispatches the chapters across the sector to take the fight to the traitor Legionaries and reinforce the warzones where the forces of the Despoiler are making the greatest gains. The Forge World Hesperus mobilizes the entire Legio Aeternum and its considerable military might to join the war, aided by several battlegroups of the Legio Crucius and several Knight Households. The traitors are not without aid of their own. Mindaugas has summoned legions of Daemons, turning the battlefields of the Martius Sector into nightmare realms, where dark dreams become violent realities. To better control the forces under his command, Lord General Arcturus divides the sector into three fronts, assigning his most trusted generals to oversee the progress of the resistance. Legate-Inquisitor Rohm gathers the fighting arms of the Ordos Inquisition, the Grey Knights and Legions of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, dispatching them on various clandestine missions deep in enemy held territory, and several Orders of Sisters of Battle join the Cardinal Astra on his holy war. With the arrival of fresh men, ships, and war machines the Imperium can now hope to turn back the Black Crusade. Marshal Rohr
Update: No camera yet, the girlfriend is bringing me hers next Saturday since my sister ran off to Scotland with mine. First, conceptualization of this project. This is to be my Magnus Opus of awesome, and once I can figure out how to make her camera work correctly this weekend. The project will be predominantly fluff based, entirely in M2C-verse, and will be a bit of the 'reinvention' of the Chapter I have been working on for several years. The modeling side will feature for most of this year, until I can finish Firefighter school and start earning real money, older models without access to the newer bits from the Blood Angels and Grey Knights. So the conversion will have an older feel to them, and not be as ascetically pleasing. Hopefully as the project goes on my GS work will improve and you all can see the difference. The second part will come after I get the firefighting job, and it'll be more in the vein of Brother Argos Steel Legion. The intent is to create 25 master models (like Pulse's Star Phantoms) of Templars that follow the 'super-detailing' of Brother Argos and 'Tabletop Realism' of Dan the Daemon and CavPathfinder. Once the masters are created, I plan on building as many as I can find the time to paint, and already have most of the 'sprues' drawn out, ready for the cash infusion to make them a reality. Now to the meat of the Update: Rough Outline of the First Major Background Piece of the Thread: Crusade → Komutrei → Preceptory Crusades are composed of multiple Komturei under the command of a Marshal. These are formed on an ad hoc, mission specific basis at the order of the High Marshal. These are the primary campaigns of the chapter and the basic operational level unit of the chapter. Komturei are the building block of the chapter. They are groups of knights under the command of a Castellan. They number anywhere between 50 to 200 knights. They are tied to individual ships in the chapter, with the ship acting as the ‘home’ of the knights. Komtueri are called to war by Marshal’s and commit to crusades for their duration. Komturei are not independent formations and always commit to a warzone as part of a larger Crusade. Preceptories are the squad level unit of the chapter. They are formed permanently on a basis of familiarity and trust. Squad members are brought in via neophyte/initiate mentorship. If the knights in the squad approve of a neophyte he earns the right to become a ward of a senior knight in the squad learning from them on the battlefield. Preceptories are not commanded by a single individual, instead a single member of the squad is elected as Squad Preceptor, and he will liase with the Castellan before combat operations and pass on the orders of the Komturei’s commander. These units number between 5 and 15 warriors and will usually have 2-5 neophytes tutoring at any given time. Larger preceptories will have a higher proportion of neophytes. Onboard their vessel, preceptories will be responsible for their own Priory, the dormitories for each squad. Each Priory will have enough cells for each knight, a designated training area, a small presbytery for the knights to perform personal devotions and act as a reliquary for the preceptory’s relics, an arms room where the weapons and armor of the squad are stored, and a calefectory where briefings are conducted and meals are shared. Neophytes live in communal dorm away from their masters, with all the neophytes of the komturei living together. They are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Priory of the preceptory they are attached to. Chapter Keeps These are expansive fortresses built on the worlds liberated by the chapter. They act as staging posts and storage facilities for the chapter, housing geneseed repositories and mothballed weapons, vehicles, and equipment. They are guarded by chapter serfs trained and equipped to the level of tier 1 Imperial Guard regiments. Though they are no where near as large as codex chapters fortress-monasteries, they are still massive and impressive fortresses, capable of housing several komturei. The largest chapter keep is on the world of Fergax in the segmentum Solar. A former Imperial Fists recruiting world, it was given over to the chapter as a homeworld during the second founding, yet Sigismund chose not to tie his chapter to any one homeworld, instead choosing to let their ships be their home. The keep at Fergax can hold several thousand warriors and is the largest planet based repository of geneseed. Chapter Fleet The chapter fleet is comprised of dozens of battle barges and strike cruisers, and hundreds of escorts and dedicated support ships. The Eternal Crusader The oldest vessel belonging to the chapter, the Eternal Crusader was once the largest ship in the Imperial Fists fleet. It was constructed even before the Emperor’s Great Crusade and captured and reconsecrated for use by the VII legion during an unknown campaign. Throughout the years it has been modified several times, and has the ability to repair its attendant ships. It is one of the largest vessels in the Imperium and can hold over a thousand warriors. It acts as a spiritual home of the chapter, and it houses the chapters most prized relics. It is several kilometers long and is maintained by an untold number of chapter serfs and servitors. Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers The majority of the chapter’s ships are relics of the great crusade, their construction commissioned during the Emperor’s conquest of the stars. There are many classes of vessel no longer seen or produced by the Imperium as well as newer patterns commissioned by the chapter after the second founding. The two primary ‘classes’ of vessel are the battle barge and strike cruiser. Battle barges are the largest and most powerful ships of the line. They are frequently pre-heresy assault ships and battleships that had been configured for planetary assault. After the Guilliman reforms all vessels of the space marines were reconfigured into planetary assault ships. Battle barges can hold and deploy anywhere between 300 and 1000 knights, depending on the size and class of the vessel, usually housing 2-3 komturen, though sometimes as high as 5 or 6. Strike cruisers are a smaller class of ship, holding less than 300 knights. They are often battle and grand cruisers as well as the newer pattern specifically designed for space marines. These ships often hold 1 or 2 komturen and their support. Some strike cruisers are designated as ‘vanguard’ and have additional modifications to perform ranging operations. Escorts The chapter makes use of all classes of space marine and imperial escort ships. Forgeships Massive cruiser class vessels that are gigantic space borne factories. Capable of creating codex patterns of wargear and power armor in large numbers. Gifted to the chapter by the Adeptus Mechanicus for Sigismunds aid in liberating Mars after the Siege of Terra. Chapter Mass Conveyors The Black Templars are known to possess several mass conveyors that act as mobile storehouses and armory for mothballed and replacement wargear and vehicles. These mass conveyors tag along with crusade fleets operating far from chapter keeps and the heart of the Imperium or for supporting large and costly wars. They are slow, but heavily armored and possess powerful defensive weaponry. Training Ships Unique to the chapter. Former Ad Mech research vessels and Pre-Imperial colony ships which used geodomes to produce oxygen for the ship. The domes have been repurposed to allow for training in multiple biomes and various climes. The Chapter is ruled by the High Marshal, who holds supreme power. Beneath him are the Marshals, the Reclusiarch, the Master of the Forge, the Emperor’s Champion, and the Chief Apothecary. The Marshals are the war leaders of the Chapter. Each commands a Crusade. The Marshals are rarely gathered together and are spread throughout the galaxy, coming together in their entirety when the election of a new High Marshal is required. The Reclusiarch is the spiritual head of the chapter. Traditionally, the Reclusiarch of the Eternal Crusade is the de facto head of the chaplains of the chapter, as a first among equals. Each Crusade has its own Reclusiarch, and subordinate chaplains answer directly to him. The Master of the Forge is the title given to the senior techmarine of each Crusade. As with the Reclusiarch, the Master of the Forge of the Eternal Crusade is de facto leader of the techmarines, but each crusade will have their own Master of the Forge. Frequently, these brothers are given command of the individual Crusade’s Forgeships. The Emperor’s Champion also holds a position on the High Marshal’s Inner Council. Though each Crusade will have an Emperor’s Champion, the Champion of the Eternal Crusade is the bearer of the Black Sword and Armor of Faith wielded by Sigismund during the Siege of Terra. The Chief Apothecary, unlike the Master of the Forge and Reclusiarch, is an individual position. The Chief Apothecary resides aboard the Eternal Crusader, and oversees the genestocks of each Crusade through a system of tithed purity tests. He is responsible for maintaining the purity of the genetic material used to make new brothers as well as distributing the genestocks amongst the Crusades and keep-fortresses that house stockpiles of excess genetic material. The Eternal Crusade is the personal fighting force of the High Marshal. Comprised of the flagship-monastery of the chapter, the Eternal Crusader, and any vessels called by the High Marshal to support his wars. The Eternal Crusade is normally the largest Crusade operating in the galaxy at any given time. Usually numbering over a thousand warriors, comprised of the knights of various Marshal’s Crusades called to support the High Marshal, as at Armageddon and Terra. Given the fleet based nature of the crusades, the chapter has an unregimented and ad hoc organization. The basic unit is the Preceptory, a group of knights who fight together out of familiarity and mutual trust. Unlike Codex Chapters, Black Templars squads are formed permanently, with a knight filling a role he is particularly suited for. Above the squad is the Komturei. The Komturei is permanently attached to a ship, whether it is a battle barge or strike cruiser, with squads rotating in command of the chapter’s escort, training, and mass conveyors. Normally, Strike Cruisers are commanded by a senior Castellan. The ships that a komturei resides on become something of a home for the knights with their identity tied to the vessel. The chapter has a large number of non-space marine personnel in its service. These mortals are charged with the logistical operations of supporting the crusades. The chapter possess hundreds of chapter keeps spread across the Imperium, and it is up to these men and women to maintain the facilities and, if need be, defend them. These mortals are not wretched slaves, like in some chapters, but devoted servants, as much a part of the chapter as the brother knights. Each serf takes vows of fealty to the High Marshal upon entering the chapter’s service. Most come willingly, seeing the opportunity to serve the emperor in ways their fellows across the Imperium never will. Some come hoping to cleanse the stars of the alien, mutant, and heretic; others comes seeking to expunge past sins and misdeeds. More come to start a new life, away from the wretched toil of their lives in Imperial Hive Cities and Manufactorums. Others are pressed into service if the needs of the chapter are great enough, having taken large casualties amongst the serf populations during a crusade. These serfs do all manner of tasks for their liege lords. Some manufacture armor and ammunition. Others perform craftsman and artificer tasks, from making papyrus and candles to repairing and improving power armor plate. The more able bodied serfs are given extensive military training to defend the chapter keeps and vessels of the crusade fleets. These men are armed and armored on par with the elite of the Imperial Guard and trained to an equivalent standard. Some serfs become naval ratings, performing tasks onboard the ships of the chapter, from manning vox stations and cannons to piloting the ancient vessels. Other serfs serve the Techmarines and Techpriests of the chapter, acting as engineering crew and performing complex repairs and maintenance too complex for servitors. Millions of normal humans serve the chapter, forming a lifeblood of devoted followers that allows the knights to wage their wars effectively. Marshal Rohr
Always wanted to. People would be mad when I boost the Templars numbers, make them a legal non-codex chapter (like the knightly orders were exempt from taxes irl), have them possess warmachines and equipment to make them an army and not strike force, and have sigismund be considered an Imperial Saint. Naw, I wouldn't do all that... Marshal Rohr
Alright, update time. So I have done alot of GS work over the past few days, making half tabards for the initiates without full tabards from the upgrade sprue and the time has come for me to start work on my first of seven Castellans (The Dramatis Persona and their models will all be posted in due course). Castellan Sylas. Commander of the 1st Komturei and Seneschal of the Household. I have a specific model in mind, yet I am afraid to begin GS work on him for fear of messing up my only model. Here is the picture that is the inspiration for the conversion. The model being based off the obvious commander in the scene. I thought of using this model as a base. Given their similar poses and both having a mk 7 double tube helmet. For the Power Sword I was thinking this: Given their similar quillions. As for the GS work, I am too timid to attempt chains, the leather straps would be easy enough, but I am unsure of how to do the detail and rivets. The shields are pretty simple and easy, and if enough people like I can post a tutorial on how to make the small plasticard shields of any size in a few easy steps. So, opinions please? The weapon loadout will be the standard Power Sword, Bolt Pistol, Iron Halo, but I really wanted to include a combat shield for aesthetics, as shields are going to be prominent across the whole crusade. Marshal Rohr
Here is a rough picture of my first 40 Initiates to be converted, based, and painted. Most of the models are second and third hand, most of the bitz are pre-Blood Angels and Grey Knights, all have been soaked in Simple Green several times, and all need lots of TLC. Now once I can figure out the damn camera I can take better pictures. Anyone have any tips? Firepower
Cameras are kind of a *@^@$. I had to play with my white balance, focus, and tons of other things, build a basic lightbox, and I still have to use a few quick tricks in Photoshop to make things look proper. All the methods I use are written out nicely in the Photography Tutorial subforum. Nice to see so many marines getting a proper second chance to serve the Emperor as a proper Astartes  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246887-to-destroy-the-shadows/#findComment-3002308 Share on other sites
