DIY Razorback Turret

Hey Guys!

Since I already magnetized my first Baal Predator and still got lots of guns left from my Stormravens, I thought about making my own Razorback weapon turrets to save some moneys.

For the turret base, I think about using magnets and a terminator base, which is slightly bigger than the hole and should work quite well. But I didnt have a good idea yet for the turrent mount and top plate, and would like to ask if someone here has already tried such a thing

have had the same problem, some simple plasticard with some 40k bits to liven it up winds up being the easiest and most cost effective method i'm afraid. There isn't a good source of bits that will make a suitable cover from what i can tell. would love for someone to prove me wrong though.

cheapest option from bits you may have is to simply take razorback lascannons and cut them up and stick on the heavy flamer sponsons from the baal pred kit

if you dont have the parts you can always try a bits trade site which some forums do have...

Here is an idea for you that I'm doing for my BA force. Two types of Razor turret. An 'old' style for my MKI conversions, and a 'new' style for regular MKII's as I see it.

The first is basically the Storm Raven turret. The second one is plasticard and modeling putty (and spares). I wanted a more modern 40k feel, but I copied the footprint and sloping sides of the Storm Raven turret.

Hope this helps.

You could snaz that up by adding some promethium containers on the side.

Where do you recommend getting these?

Got a Guard friend with vehicle sprues? Baal preds where you went with the bolters or assault cannons? A Redeemer kit that became a Crusader? Infantry gas packs from other lines? Might even be able to use CO2 cartridges.

why do people mount the razor turret all the way at the back? do the rules say it has to be there? it makes no logical sense... there would be some sort of support and ammo feeds leading down from it, and people would have to move around them to disembark from the vehicle, it should be up front or in the middle, like the pred.

No, you're right. There's nothin that says it has to be at the back. And further forward would be more advantagius game wise. But I'd imagin many people, myself included don't like the mid mounted look. Personally, I'd love the turret to be right at the front. But that would make swapping between rhino an razor a lil more complicated.

Well most of the space marine vehicles have a basis on real world military vehicles. Look at the LAV-25 a real world USMC personnel transport, rear mounted turret. Also see the US Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Both have their turrets mounted toward the rear of the vehicle and come with multiple weapons load outs similar to the razorback, and in the case of the Bradley you can definitely see the similarities between it and the razorback. But once again this is a Science Fiction game so most of it is just a design that worked for the concept artist.

It's not a great picture but it kind of gets the message across - this is one I just threw together using the missile launcher arm from a Dread. Lay it flat, glue on various lights etc and then mount the guns on the sides, glue some ammo feeds on. Bang done. Just let me know if you need any more pics and I'll take some.

So I finally came up with my own version of a turret

You need the following:

- SR landing gear

- SR weapons (or any other weapon you want)

- Furioso dread hand (the round part where you glue the Blood Fists "fingers" on)

- 1x standard unit base

- magnetz

Essentially cut the landing gear in half and stick it in the Furioso hand, it fits neatly. Glue the hand on the base. Glue magnets for the weapons on the side of the landing gear shaft, make sure both weapons are parallel and you're done. Feel free to add some lights (I added a search light from the furioso kit) to make it look more awesome :D

I don't know what you are talking about. Neither of these have rear-mounted turrets. They are not exactly at the center, but they certainly don't have rear-mounts, like the Razor does.

I place my Razor turrets centrally, just cause it makes more sense that way.

It's all aesthetics for me. Looks a lot better in the back. The scale is off anyway, so it's not a big deal to me.
